Unhappy Why can't I low-carb????!!!!

Hi all,

I need some advice! I'm trying to diet at the mo and I'm following slimming world doing mainly red days to keep the carbs low..... as recommended for us cysters! The problem I have is that I just can't stick to it! If I don't get my carbs I feel faint, empty and have horrific sugar cravings!

Does anyone else experience this? I have really tried but I just need my carbs! I managed to give up smoking 6 months ago but why can't I cut down the carbs??!! Please tell me I'm not alone!

The first week is hard. I won't lie but after the cravings go away, you'll feel better. for the first week, try to have something every 2-3 hours.

here are some ideas:

breakfast- egg omelet with cheese, sliced catolope, cup of milk
Snack- fruit(apple lots of fiber)
Lunch- salad with chicken, or some protein and veggies, some chilli, and some cucumbers with peanut butter
Snack- 1 oz. of plain unsalted almonds(very filling)- 1 oz. is about 23-26 almonds
Dinner- start with a side salad with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and balsamic vinegar, then have a protein and lots of veggies.
Dessert- have a cup of frozen grapes(great snack, like having an icee)

as the days go on, you'll find your cravings lessen and you'll be less hungry. drink lots of water and have some healthy fats like EVOO and peanut butter(all natural, smuckers makes one with peanuts as its only ingredients).

hope this helps

When you do carb, are you doing complex (whole-grain) carbohydrates?

Low carb is really not for me, but doing "healthy" carbs is not really that difficult (though I admit to craving potatoes from time to time).
Instead of normal pasta, eat whole wheat pasta. Instead of white bread, whole grain bread. Instead of white rice, brown or red rice. Instead of white potatoes, sweet potatoes. Instead of sugary cereal, whole grain cereal.

The best thing about these kinds of carbs is that I don't get those sugar spikes and lows, and they keep me full longer.

I agree with the other cysters, it is rough the first week and complex carbs are ok. But combine the two, simply stick to a strict low carb diet then slowly bring the complex carbs in, that works well for me.

I also was a smoker, then now I know I am addicted to sugar! Grr If you can quit smoking you can low carb! been there, done, both!!!!

Simple things, when you feel hungery, and a bit weak, milk, a glass will help, christyz taught me that!

I wish you well! It will be worth it!
