Red face why do I feel so weak on Metformin

I started Metformin 5 days ago and the first couple of days I felt nothing then the third day I felt like I could just pass out. So I stopped taking it until I get my insulin checked. How long before there is weightloss results? I don't understand this disease and just like people who are alchoholics need meetings I feel there should be meetings for women who have this. I feel very frightened about it.

I don't really have an answer for you, but just wanted to say welcome to the board and let you know that you're not alone, in being anxious/afraid of this. However, there are MANY extremely knowledable women (and men, too) on this board, with so much information, it will make your head spin!!!

But, a possibility with IR that might be making you feel weak, is that your body is going through hypoglycemia (but this excuse doesn't make sense, because met is going to regulate your blood glucose and insulin levels, thus you won't be having periods of hyper or hypoglycemia (high and low blood sugar levels).
Or, possibly, you've been IR so long, that merely having regular levels of blood sugar will make you feel that run down.
(I'm just making wild guesses here and I'm sure somebody with more accurate info will post...)
However, I know that a lot of women with IR (even thouse on meds, to treat it, such as myslef) are constantly drained. I can't remember the last time that I didn't feel exhausted all day, despite getting proper sleep, excercise, etc.

As far as weight loss goes, my gyn told me that gradually, your body will just shed the unnecessary pounds, even without a low-carbohydrate style diet. The rationale for this is that your body is now properly utilizing the insulin it is producing and insulin is what puts your body into storage mode (to store the fat, rather than use it right away and get it out of the body). And, I've noticed that this is true, slowly, but very surely (at least in my case, because everybody is so different in how things work for them).

I hope I've been able to help; maybe not with info, but at least in letting you know that you aren't alone!!! Post anytime!!! Let me know what you find out!!!

Check out the thread called "total exhaustion" on the Met Board. Several there give the suggestion of taking B12.

Good luck!!
