Default why does bcps seem better

I've been on metformin for about 6mnths now and i also take thyroid pills......i have excessive facial hair have only lost 3pounds losing hair. However when i was on zovia a bcp....I looked great no facial hair smoothe skin my hair was all there, regular periods!...I hate that i'm off bcps....because metformin has done little to nothing to help me...i'm thinking about asking my doctor for bcps......(the doc that prescribed me zovia is not the same doc thats prescribing me metformin)....I just want to feel feminine again....what do u guys think?

This is topic that not many agree on. Some swear by BCPs and love them and others feel like they mess up their hormones even more and just "mask" the symptoms. My RE is putting me on Yasmin for one cycle to prepare me for an injection cycle. He said I might see some improvement in facial hair and acne. I plan to do some electrolysis while I am on it since the change in hormones might let it work.

I say if you liked it before, and your doctor agrees, Why not? At least the Met will be helping your insulin at the same time.

Sasha, I think you could take both the metformin and bc pills. Many people take both. Remember each person with pcos is different and not every treatment will work for everyone. I have always been told it is best to fine tune treatment to the individual. Excess hair can be disturbing if not depressing! If ovcon helped it add it back. There are certain bc PIlls that don't disturb insulin as much as others. I think I read that desogestrel is one (ortho-cept) that in theory doesn't affect insulin as much. It is also a skin and hair friendly pill (low androgen).

They don't really have a complete hand on PCOS anyway. Lots of theories and trials going on. Treat as you need!

Best of Luck to you!!!
