Why does chili give you gas sometimes and other times it doesn't??
Sorry if this is a distasteful question, but last night I made chili for dinner and my husband and I have the worst gas of our lives. A few weeks ago, I made the same recipe and no problems. Any ideas??

Counting the days until my husband comes home from Afghanistan, December 4th at 8:33pm, but hey who's counting?!
Did you use beans? I know beans can give you gas. I have heard too if you use dried beans, and rehydrate them and not drain off the liquid and use fresh water it can contain a lot of gas... Just a suggestion.
Sorry ya'll got the toots!

Beans that are undercooked give gas. Make sure that you cook your beans long enough and wha- la - gas free.

Just having fun doing it the "natural way"
There are many reasons that gas happens, and it isn't always the beans.
One thing you can do is if you or hubby drinks beer, you can add a minimum of half a can of (6 oz) in place of the same amount of water. The beer will help keep the chili form fermenting and producing gas. Also, do make sure your beans are cooking through.
Just watch what you eat during the day, see if it is the beans in your chili or a combination of what you have eaten for the day. Also, the type of beans you use make a difference.
BTW, garlic is a very gasy item, so is raw broccoli and cuccumbers with the seeds left in. We love garlic, so we live with the after affects.
