i waxed for years.. the only reason i ever started shaving was because of laser (you cant wax or pluck between laser treatments), the only thing that sucked about waxing is now i have a bit of a permanent redness on my upper lip.. and i hated waiting for the hair to get long enough to wax.
if my hair was fair i'd still wax.

I wouldn't shave if you paid me!!!! I shaved the hair on my tummy and it went way out of control! I ended up with almost an entire tummy full of thick dark hair. So it's plucking, bleaching (to make hairs lighter and more un-noticable) or waxing for me.

waxing ultimately made my skin develop "under the skin" dark patches. Although I have since been doing laser treatments, they are hard to get rid of...

I've never waxed, mainly because I can't allow my hair to grow long enough for it to do any good. Shaving is the only thing that works for me. I remember trying to use Nair about 3 years ago, and I couldn't even leave it on the required length of time, because it burned so bad (even left a chemical burn on my face). I hate shaving, but I can't afford laser treatments, and short of quitting my job, school, and becoming a hermit for several weeks, there's nothing else I can do. But if waxing works...go for it. If it worked, and I could do it, I would.

Okay, Kimbearly, what'd you do for the chemical burns from Nair. I just really noticed my neck hair yesterday and decided to Nair on impulse. I have stinging skin over 12 hours later AND a blistery rash up one side of my neck. I'm thinkin' the hair was better. Any advice on easing my current discomfort (other than to NEVER use Nair on my neck again)?

Luckily, I didn't really have to do much for it. It formed a scab on my chin, but after about a day it went away on its own. I think I might have used some moisturizer around the burned area, which took away some of the stinging. Sorry I can't help more

i think someone would have to have really tough skin for products like nair NOT to do that to it. just think, if it disolves your hair, think of what its doing to your skin.

I have been waxing for since I was 15 first with only my upper lip, now I also do the chin. I have to go every two weeks to get it done. I hate the pain of it, but it works. I have considered shaving, but have an aunt who has shaved for years and when I look at her I can notice what to me looks like razor burn from the years of shaving. I have never tried the nair due to god only knows what is in it!! I would rather not have the hair to begin with but hey somethings we can not help.... I do want to try lazer but for now I will wait until I can finally say good bye to all these fertility drugs....

I'm with KimbearlySue. I would love to get rid of all my extra hair with wax, but I cannot stand to let it grow out to the required length. I shave everything daily - face, legs, armpits, bikini line, whatever.

I wish I had the patience/self-confidence to let it grow out for waxing. or the $$ for laser.

Why does waxing cause dark spots? I have recently noticed a dark circle right on my lip line of my upper lip but though that dark spots was a symptom of PCOS....

If waxing worked for you, wonderful!

However, I can do nothing but shave, because I have fair skin & dark hair & it's simply not an option for me to go out in public with a goatee. Especially because where I live, I am pretty well known. I usually run into someone I know & chit chat & I don't want them to notice the "darkness" on my chin.

I did have my lip waxed one time & it became swollen afterwards.
*sigh*
