Default Why is it that every dr. is different?

I've heard some women say that their dr. told them to wait 3 months after m/c before they TTC. My dr. said he was going to give me 1 month of BCP's and then we'd do injectibles again. I know some womens drs tell them they can't start TTC again until they get a normal unmedicated cycle.

Why are so many drs saying so many different things? Whose right? And what is the sense of taking 1 month of BCP's??

I guess I have all these questions b/c I'm waiting around for the next 2 hours to find out my fate w/ the beta and having to take BCP's and everything that goes on w/ having this happen

Traci,
I am sorry to hear that you have had a m/c. It can be so confusing afterwards, trying to decide what to do. If I were in your shoes, I would not do the BCPs... and instead I would watch for O and go for it right away. But that's just my opinion.

The reason I think this is that since your loss was relatively early on, there's a good chance you'll O soon and it has been shown that women are generally much more fertile right after a m/c. I am living proof, as I conceived the 2nd time right aftr my first m/c. Though I lost this 2nd pr it was for reasons unrelated to the fact that it was soon after a pr. And the thing is that, after 3 years ttc on my own natural (but very late) Os, I finally got an early (and healthy) O and conceived naturally! It can and does happen all the time, so I generally feel that it's a shame not to give it a try.

Docs all have different reasons for recommending that you wait and for taking BCP etc. Some say they want the lining to build up and the BCP helps with that. I have also heard that conceiving after BCP can be beneficial to preventing m/c because it stops your body from making LH for a while and, like Lupron, this has been found to have a positive effect for us cysters. It might be helpful to ask your RE what his/her reasoning is.

But, in general, cycles after m/c have been found to be just as "healthy" as those at other times and much more fertile... so I'm not sure what to make of these recommendations.

Above all, it is nice to get pr without meds and one of the only times when we cysters have a chance at that is right after m/c. Anyhow, I am sorry for your loss and if you do decide that you are ready to ttc again, feel free to join the "supposed to be on a rest cycle" buddy group on the ttc board. (((hugs)))

Thanks Louie. I'll actually find out today if I have an actual chem. pg. when I get the beta results back this afternoon. I have never O'd on my own (even w/ Clomid or anything except for Follistim which was just this cycle). So it is possible after a m/c to O on my own? That would be wonderful! I'm going to ask my RE this afternoon about the BCP's when he calls. I really don't feel comfortable taking them b/c when I was 15/16 the gyn gave them to me b/c I wasn't getting AF (she didn't even attempt to figure out why and just told me to take BCP's). I had a severe reaction to them (of course I don't remember which ones), my bp skyrocketed, I couldn't see, I was dizzy, I almost passed out, and I almost ended up in the hospital. I just don't want that to happen again. I fought in Jan. when my RE wanted to put me on BCP's b/c we wouldn't be here on the right days for monitoring. He finally said that I didn't have to take them. Hopefully if I explain again, he won't make me take them. And I don't have any lining issues, my lining was 13.2 2 days before I got my IUI.

So I guess it's just a wait and see right now.....I hate waiting!

Thanks again!
Traci

Traci, I just read your other post and am so sorry.

As far as having an O on your own after m/c. There's no gaurantee, but there's definitely a good chance. I always O on my own, but always very late in the cycle (CD28) and was never able to conceive with these late Os. Then, after m/c, I had an O on CD17 and conceived without any meds at all.

I read that the hormonal changes created by a pregnancy - no matter how brief - can improve and even sometimes "fix" the hormonal problems that we cysters face. Some cysters have great trouble getting pr the first time but no trouble at all after that because of this. So, if you're really interested in trying naturally, you might want to consider letting your system go natural for a month or even two to see what happens. If you go for it, just be sure to take frequent OPK tests and chart your temps so you can confirm when/if O happens.

Otherwise, just remember that no doc can make you do anything with your body that you don't want to do. If the bcp makes you feel sick or you are in any way against it, just say "no." They will have a plan B for you I am sure and this may be a lot more to your liking. Hang in there and know that we are all pulling for you. ((hugs))
