Default Why not BCP?

I have been on BCP for 9 years and have experienced nice, steady periods and peaceful hormones. I had irregular periods as a teenager before BCP and was curious what my body would do without BCP, so I went off. Well, the results were no period for 6 months and many symptoms of PCOS.

My doctor suggested either Met or back on BCP and my question is why wouldn't I go back on the BCP? Why would I want to start Met and experience all the bad side effects I keep hearing about?

There is a debate in the medical community about whether BCP worsen insulin resistance in the short or long term. So this is something to consider, in addition to the usual risk factors of BCP.

That said, for the time being, I'm still taking BCP (Portia), which keeps my period related symptoms mainly under control. I'm still reading and talking to my endo. about it though, because the insulin resistant scares me, and also because I'm not happy with many of the side effects. (acne, wreaks havoc on my sex drive, etc.)

So, to make a long answer short, read some of the stuff Kat has up about BCP and insulin resistance, consider your side effects, etc. and make your personal decision.
