I have been wondering about this for awhile... why are we thin? And why do I not have the acne, excess hair, baldness & other terrible problems that affect so many of our cysters?
I think I remember reading something awhile back about some kind of hormone or something being different with us... does anyone know?

I think that we all have individual symptoms. So of the heavier women may not have all of the other symptoms either. For me, I have mild acne, but really no other physical sign. I just think we probably all have varying degrees of severity (but its just a theory)
im thin, have the acne, dark hair, yet no one can tell my why I have pcos and how to deal with it. No one in my family has ever had it (that we know of) and no one else has it except for me. Im not about to lose weight either, as I don't have any weight to lose. So that's my dilema....
Bella Bee, I am pretty sure you need Metformin! Many, many cysters (me included) take it to help regulate our hormones (it does this by regulating our insulin).
Have you done any reading about it? There is plently of info on this site, try checking it out. I would also REALLY recommend seeing an endocrinologist & having some bloodwork done.
I have to go to work now but if you have any ?'s I'll try to answer them later.

Hi Bethany,
Thanks for your post
I was seeing an Endo, firstly because I had Osteoporosis, then when I moved cities, I saw a New endo, and he diagnosed PCOS straight away. He sent me away to get an ultrasound done, and hey presto, he was right. I have cysts all over both ovaries, it was as clear as day on the u/s. I went back to see my endo last month, and he put me on Met 500mg. Ive been taking that for abt 4 weeks now, and habe upped the intake to 2 tablets a day (1000mg) and so on, every month until my periods comes. I havent had them in 7 mths, so Im hoping it works!!!
ive had all the blood tests done too, high male hormone, which is where the acne is coming from. I guess my main question is why?? But no one can answer that one, all i know is thats what life has dealy me and now I have to deal with it.
I got married 6 months ago too, so as you can imagine we would like to start a family, but thats not happening either. I go back to the Endo in November, so by then I should know if the Met has helped bring on my periods or not. If it has, he will put me on Clomid to help me get pregnant, if it hasnt helped, then im off to a gyno and probably ivf. But I will have to wait and see...
Hi Bella Bee,
Sounds like you are well on your way!! Don't despair, I was in your shoes, I tried to get pg for a few years not knowing I had PCOS, & after I was dx'd with PCOS & went on Met I got pg within a few months. One thing though, I am pretty sure I read that the minimum effective therapeutic dose is 1500 mg/day?? You might want to check that out though.

most of us have symptoms that are different. like for me i get the acne , not horribly, i also get thinning hair. most people cant notice because it just looks like fine hair, no bald spots. but i notice. also i am trying to loose weight and it is hard!!! i weigh 127 lbs but am small boned and would like to get down to 114 but cant !!!
Well I'm glad to have found others with PCOS who are slim! I found out I had PCOS two weeks ago; hadn't had a period for 13 months after coming off the BCP and the Dr's kept on telling me it was because I was too thin but scan revealed cysts!! I have been panicing that I was going to balloon overnight (currently happy at 116lbs)! I haven't got acne or excessive hair growth but unfortunately have experienced quite marked hair loss which is distressing.
The Doctor does not seem bothered about helping with the hair loss, I know it seems vain in comparison to some of the problems that people have but does anyone know of any natural remedies that could help me with this?
Hi Karen,
I just wanted to mention that maybe you could look on the "Hair in the wrong places/hair loss" group on the message board for some ideas. Hope you find some answers.
Elizabeth

a good supplement for hairloss or thin hair is saw palmetto its an herb that has some androgen suppressing abilitys . also you can try spearamint tea about 2 cups a day was shown to have a mild effect on helping dcrease androgens too. both help the hair grow thicker i have read.
