My question to anyone who has tried the Wii Fit or the newer Wii Active..
Does it keep you motivated and coming back?
Have you seen any results in your muscles or weight loss? What do you like about it?
If you have both, which do you like better?
I've been debating for about a good 2 years now, whether I should invest in a Wii. I'm sure I'll have fun playing the sports games but the selling point for me will be if the Fit/Active can keep me interested and motivated.

Taryn- Wow girl I can't believe you've lost so much weight. Congrats!! How long has it taken you??? Regarding the WiiFit- that simply depends on HOW you use it. They have several categories such as strength, yoga, aerobic, and balance. Balance games are NOT a work out. Yoga ones are obviously just good for your posture and such. Strength activities are obvious. Aerobic ones actually make me sweat whether it be boxing, jogging around the Wii Island, step aerobics, hula hooping, etc. I do find it pretty fun and I can get a work out if I try. When you unlock the free step aerobics and free run, you can change the channel to watch TV and exercise while you're doing it. I haven't tried WiiActive yet but I'd like to!! Good luck!

We just bought a Wii yesterday along w/ the Wii Active. That thing kicked my butt today! I was running as fast as I could & it was telling me I was going too slow!
Since I just used it today I can't really answer any of your questions. I'll tell you though, the game that came w/ the Wii (Wii Sports) is a workout as well! The tennis is an awesome arm workout (now only if I could play right handed b/c my left arm is sore!) & there's boxing, bowling, golf, & baseball (they're all great arm workouts!).

I have both. I quit using Wii Fit after about two months (I lost 10 pounds really quickly) because everything you had to listen to them talk and you couldn't really skip the instructions. I got Wii Active and used it everyday for a few weeks, I've gotten lazy and I feel so guilty for not doing it. The 30 day thing is great because it does like 7 different excercises a day. I like that one a lot. Well worth it and you feel muscles and stuff building pretty quickly

I bought the Wii Fit about a year ago and have used it pretty regularly. I will say though that you don't really have to push yourself too much if you don't want to. It rewards you for your time on the board - so you can just do yoga or balance games for fun as opposed to really working out. I also think the Body Test can be a bit disheartening - once it weighs you a line moves up a BMI scale to show where you are, and for me will then say "That's Obese!" while my little Mii (avatar) bloats up and looks down at her fat body in amazment. I guess its funny or motivational to do more - but it can really get me down.
I'm going to look into getting WiiActive - I think it might be more of what I need in terms of cardio workout. I hope this helps!
I'm not so keen on WiiFit anymore. I don't think it would give me the workout I thought it would to being with, but I like the sound of WiiActive - especially seeing as I can use resistance bands and I saw a demo in the shop and some of the 'track' activities look like doing WATP lol

I have both. I got active over the weekend. I definately like it better than the wii fit. Wii fit all I usually do it the free step. I use this one while watching tv. The wii active there are many different exercises. The morning after my first work out I could barely move b/c my thighs we so sore.

You guys convinced me to get back into doing my wii active haha. But, about the running I had that problem too and then I realized two things: the nun-chuck on your leg has to be pressed against the side so the little joystick can move and it makes it a lot easier if you don't run normally. Instead of running on your heels like a normal person it kind of expects you to run on toes... also don't watch the screen that helps too that character gets frustrating haha.
the only other real problem I have with wii active is the squats it registers half the time but im pretty sure thats just how my sensor is set up. but yeah, wii active gets you super sore.. my biceps kill me! and jumping squats are the worstttt omg so sore from doing them yesterday.

The areas I need to work on are my belly and thighs, so it sounds like the Wii Active would be great for me! =) I think If I do buy the Wii - I will buy the Wii Active first. I like the idea of the yoga and balance on "Fit" though. In one of the articles that Kat posted - a trainer says "Balance is a big part of Wii Fit and that's what I find many people need a lot of help with in workouts." So i find that interesting. I can always get Wii Fit later. =)
I'll let you all know if I go ahead and buy it. =)
Thank you all for your information and opinions!

I have both and like both... I have used the Wii fit for a bit now... We just got the Active and that kicked my butt, I do like that it has more intense workouts... Wii fit, I like the yoga and some of there strength exercises are different from the Active... Active also has a 30 day challenge, I need to get myself into a better routine of exercise before I start that.. Active will also work with the balance board if you have one...

I have the Wii Fit.... and reading these posts really makes me want to blow the dust of it and get moving. I really am interested in Wii Active. I would like to test it out before i purchase it though. Thanks for all the info!
I just purchased the Active. I love it. It definitely keeps me motivated. I have only lossed a few pounds. But I like doing and I am feeling better now that I have found something that makes me for more confident.
I thought I'd chime in here to say that the Active is *definitely* more challenging than Wii Fit, and so far I'm loving it. I especially like that it accurately tracks how many minutes you've been exercising (unlike Wii Fit) and it also offers an approximate count of how many calories you've burned. Plus, it offers enough variety of challenge that the workout isn't boring. One other thing--if you live with others who would like to share, the Wii Active game offers various levels of challenges. For example, the five women in my family (ages 33-68, widely varying levels of fitness) all have found something that we can do in the Wii Active that is challenging enough as a workout that we've all been pretty consistent in using it.
