Default Will BCP hurt chances of conceiving later

Ok, I am no spring chicken! LOL
I am 28.

I have not been preventing pregnancy umm like ever. But I am VERY overweight and out of shape and really would like to get myself healthy before having a baby.
I am starting Metformin again and I do have AF when I take it so my chances of conceiving will increase.

SO should I try BCP's? OR will that hurt my chances when I am ready to conceive.
Most likely within 2 years we will start trying again.

I guess maybe I should jsut skip the BCP's and we can use condoms during this time.
Or we could just let what happens happen.

I mean maybe it would be better to jsut not prevent.. UGHHH I am confused.......

Anyway anyone have any thoughts?

Hey there,

In my opinion you would have more luck conceiving and feel far better when pregnant if you got your general health sorted out a bit. I know it is difficult, but trying to eat healthily and exercise will improve your chances of conceiving, and allow the bcp to work more effectively. If you are VERY overweight as you put it, I think I would stick with met and then if you and your doctor think you need to help stimulate cycles, then trying a bcp should be fine.

I haven't ttc yet, but I know after losing some weight (slowly but surely lol), that when I have come off bcp, I am far more regualr with my cycles and I think I am ovulating too which seems like a good sign. We're all different though. Would definitely speak with your doc though. Good luck! xx

I worried about that, too, and I would NOT do depo under any circumstances. Even the triphasics I think mess PCOS up. I had been off hormones for 10 years when my RE put me on YAZ this past summer. It didn't do for me what I hoped, but when I quit it I had two cycles, the second with ovulation, and the third a bfp. My periods were a lot more messed up before the YAZ. So I don't think the YAZ or Yasmin's too bad, and many cysters and studies have had successful weight / size loss / change on it esp when combined with Metformin.

I have pretty much cut out dairy and meat. Not in a faddy way, but I think I could do without the extra hormones influencing me! I am on Yasmin as I said, and I am steadily losing weight (and was doing before the dietary changes). I feel less bloated and more healthy now. Just wanted to share as it has always helped me in the past, so by chance (and the fact my tastes always change when I am on the pill!) I am practically a vegetarian (except a little fish each week), eat more veg and complex carbs and generally feel good. Also my skin is better.

Hope this may help xx
