I wouldn't say the meds will help you lose weight. Some people experience weight loss once on a script for hypothyroidism, but many of those are exercising and monitoring their diets. A consequence of hypothyroidism is typically a slower metabolism, it may speed up once you are on meds, but not necessarily to that of someone with a "normal" thyroid. So, I'd suggest, take your meds, monitor your diet and exercise moderately, but frequently unless you have a physician's caution.

I've found my metabolism has sped up a little. Before, I would eat healthy & not lose anything. Yesterday I ate: a garden salad (w/ FF rasp. vin. dress) & fruit, a huge cheeseburger w/ swiss, mushrooms, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, french fries, unsweetened iced tea, & 1 slice lemon merainge (sp?) pie. I didn't gain anything but I didn't lose anything either. Before I was dx'd & on meds, I would have gained weight from that! Of course, I'm also on Met so I don't know if that also has a part in not gaining anything. I don't eat like that every day. I've lost a few lbs since upping my dose (the lower wasn't working for me) but I also upped Met as well. It's possible it could be thyroid or Met or both. I do know that I was on Met before & didn't lose anything so I don't think it would be the Met.

I wish is was a miracle drug that would make me a sz 10 by Christmas!

Good Luck!
