I was just diagnosed with PCOS in October....and I'm still trying to figure out what to expect now that I have the disease (syndrome).
Although I already have developed some of the more undesirable symptoms already (infertility, weight gain, acne, hirsutism, etc....one thing I DON'T have is any signs of male-pattern baldness.
But I was wondering WILL I GET MALE-PATTERN BALDNESS ONE DAY FOR SURE???
Is there anything I can do to prevent it?
Please help...THANK YOU!!!

Although I am just starting this PCOS journey, I don't think it is definite that you will lose your hair. This syndrome manifest itself in many different ways in every person. Talk to your dr. (and the many brillant women on this board) about ways to prevent hair loss.

Thanks for replying MaLee! I sure hope you're right!
At first I thought that too (that nothing is really a definite) but I was talking with a lady with PCOS and she said despite being treated for PCOS she heard that we will still LIKELY get male-pattern baldness anyway. So I'm curious if that's true.
I figure there must be a way to prevent it (medication, etc.) but I don't know how or what to try...
Does anyone out there know of any preventitive medication to try, etc?
I'm curious if my doctor manages to get my testosterone levels down, if that should be enough to prevent hair loss from coming on?

I do not have that problem either. In fact I have a lot of hair on my head. I read an article once on PCOS that said that basically whatever symptoms you have is what you will always have. That the symptoms don't change. I find this to be true. What I had in my 20's is what I have now. ( 40's) No new and different symptoms. You are 30 so I think what you have is what your gonna have.

Thanks for responding Mathisk and kringstraw! That makes me feel better knowing that losing my hair is not a definite. I have enough PCOS-related problems to worry about (as we all do)!

My best friend also has PCOS and she has the thickest head of hair I have ever seen. I wish I could have some of that hair since mine has been falling out for 10 years. I hope you are one of the lucky ones like her.
Well I just turned 26 and I have known since I was about 16 that I had PCOS and Jan 2002 I was TTC and thats when it started know almost one year later I just want to die, I have lost more then half of my hair and its the worst thing that could of ever happen to me. Im not tryin to freak you out but it could happen at anytime.
