Default Will losing weight help if already thin?

Hi Cysters,

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and my DH and I are TTC for 6 months now. I am at a healthy weight, 125lbs 5'6" and my only PCOS symptoms are irregular menstrual cycles, lots of cysts, and an elevated free testosterone. I am currently taking metformin extended release. The metformin increased my SHBG which decreased my overall free T. Should I also try to lose 5% of my body weight? Do I still have insulin issues even if I am not currently struggling with obesity? All of the books I read seem to be targeted to women who are struggling with obesity, does the advice apply to me as well?

Thanks!
Rebecca

I am on the thinner side as well and have been wondering this. Sorry I have no clue but hopefully someone else will!

I don't think so. I'm a healthy weight. I didn't try to lose any weight when I was diagnosed, and my endo didn't tell me to (and I'm pretty sure he would've, because he told me a lot of stuff I didn't want to hear).

I'm also a healthy weight, so I just changed my diet to a "wholesome" one - not low fat but plenty of healthy grains, lots of veggies and herbs, fish, little meat and only organic when I do eat meat, and organic dairy products.

I feel better for it
Bloody expensive though!!

I have noticed that when I eat better, (less processed), I get my period more often. I love the PCOS Diet book. My sister is borrowing it right now so I can't tell you who wrote it.
