Will Metformin help me loose weight with serious workouts?
Soooo... I recently started taking metformin to help treat my PCOS and help me loose weight. My question is: Will it help me?
I took a year off from exercise after a double pulmonary embolism. That is a whole new story! At my highest weight, I weighed 320 pounds. I am now down to about 270. I am commited to the gym, and I am really working out hard. But weight loss is weight loss, and it takes time. I eat much better than I used to, and I watch the sugar. I am not diabetic. My question to all of you ladies is.... will this make a difference with my weight loss? I am currently taking 500mg 2 times a day. Does anyone take a higher dose? How is it working? So far, I have tolerated the medication well with few side affects... the only thing that I have noticed is that I feel a little wierd.. can't put my finger on the feeling. It is hardley noticable!
This disease frustrates and depresses me to no end.... I have drained my bank account paying for lazer hair removal and electrolysis. I can no longer take birth controll as I had 2 blood clots as a reaction to the medication. I have been taking phentermine on and off for the last few years, but it is so expensive to keep up with since insurance does not cover it. I love to work out, and I don't feel like I eat too badly... I feel as though I should have a much better body than what I have. Does anyone hear me?
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was taking the 500s twice a day without exercising and lost about 20 pounds... Now the doc has me on 1000 twice a day and it is really helping me. I'm down another 20 pounds...

I was wondering the same thing. I started taking it but gradually increased my dose. I am now taking 1000 mg twice a day. I am hoping that this really helps with the weight loss I need to do.

I'm on 1000mg a day and I've lost 13 pounds so far. I probably could lose more if I did my cardio...but it seems that this Met is making me tired and I don't have the energy.
...I can do 2 1/2 hours of cardio on the eliptical at a good resistance level. Yet I struggle with my weight loss.
How much strength training are you doing?

Thanks for the insight!!! Im going to try to get my dose increased and Im going to keep going to the gym and pray for good results Keep up the good work!
Well, I just started weight training. Ive been sticking to cardio mostly... about 7 hours of cardio a week. I started incorporating high rep circuit training in to my workouts this week. but I'm telling you, I have stayed away from weights because I get BIG. When I was 16 years old, I could bench press close to 200 pounds. Im really trying to shrink. I know Ill never be small.... here is an example. I havn't done weighted exercises on my calfs in 2 years. They pop out like a mans! They are huge! I pick up muscle really easy. How about you? You look good by the way.... good luck with all of your exercise... Im glad im not alone as far as the working out is concerned. What do you do for weights and cardio? how long and how often?
Persist with the strength training - it will help with the weight loss. I've always enjoyed strength training because its been easier for me than cardio.
I'm in a muddle with my exercise at the moment because I've just started classes and extra hours at work - but I'm getting 300-400minutes in a week and usually half of that is strength training or a combination of strength training and cardio together. I should probably do more cardio, but as I said, strength training is my favourite!

i am about to up my dosage to 1500 sometime next week so I hope to start losing weight. So far, I haven't lost any weight, but then again, I also haven't been exercising. I promised myself to start and stick with a routine on Monday, so we'll see. I'll let you ladies know what happens.
I think the metformin has quit working for me? Has anyone else experienced this? I was on it before I got pregnant ,then started taking it again after Jack was born, but it is not working like it did in the beginning. I'm on 1500 mgs a day. Should I go to a higher dosage?
