Default Will an OPK be pos one day, and neg the next?

I took OPK's the last few days, and I have a question...

Friday 6pm - Light line
Sat 10am - Lighter line (probably because it was first morning urine.)
Sat 7pm - Definite line, almost equal to control, but not quite.
Sun 7pm - No line whatsoever.

So are OPK's supposed to stay "positive" up until O day, or are they just supposed to detect the surge 24-48 hours in advance, then go negative before you ovulate?

I ask because last cycle I had a positive OPK's up until the DAY that I ovulated. My temperature has dropped REALLY low (see chart) so I think it MIGHT spike in a few days. I've been spotting on and off for the last few days, with EWCM. BUT - like I said - I haven't had a fully DARK positive OPK...just sorta dark, then nothing. (BTW my pee isn't diluted or anything either.) I spotted today with a "wet" feeling, but hubby and I DTD earlier and he hit my cervix pretty hard..(ow...) so maybe that's why I'm spotting...

Ugh, anyway. Any insights would help.

Yes, that is what happened to me this cycle, it was the first one I have ever done OPK, and when I talked to my Ob/gyn, he said that it was normal. You may have missed the real surge, as I have read from multiple sources that LH surge can happen and decrease within 12 hours. Which is probably why some women do it 2x a day.
What kind of OPK do you use?

I use the internet cheapies from early-pregnancy-tests.com. They work great for me and usually around O time I take three or so per day. But I am only on CD 13, and last time I o'd on CD 21. So I wasn't expecting it at all. I just felt "wet" and got suspicious.

Oh, LOL, and I spot sometime too after we dtd, especially after certain positions...Though, I will say that if I hadn't said anything to my OB/GYN about that, they wouldn't have found the uterine polyp through u/s, therefore wouldn't have done the lap. surgery which diagnosed me with endometriosis as well. And I had to have my left fallopian tube removed due to scar tissue causing a hydrosalphinx.

Well....I had an u/s last cycle to see if I O'd and he didn't see anything weird...so that's good! LOL Last cycle i took it 5-9 and O'd on CD 21. We actually think it was a cyst that burst due to the amt of fluid behind my uterus in the u/s and pain on the left side. But my temps still went up and stayed up, so there could have been an egg in the cyst too.

This cycle I wanted to take it early so that I would O a little earlier in my cycle. I didn't want to do CD 3-7 because I felt that may be a little TOO early for me. So I actually did it 4-8. Today is CD 13 and yesterday I got the nearly pos OPK and today I am having slight ovarian pain in leftie. (left ovary.) So i dunno...

I'm pretty sure it just detects the surge, and then the results you see will be negative. I think you probably O'ed today.

Just going by those descriptions first posted, you haven't detected the surge yet. The lines can always fade in and out (mine always be like yours - almost, nearly not quite the same one day, then nothing at all the next). Keep testing, and you'll hit your surge!

I think if you took the clomid earlier, it would cause you to O earlier, in a perfect world of course. ;D In TCYF, Toni says that if OPK are used, they should start being taken the first day of any sign of CM after AF stops. Also, LH surges, then goes away, then you O generally. If you tested Pos. for several days in a row, or have positves more than a day apart, it unfortunately is part of our PCOS because that's what our bodies do. Seeing a surge, and then it going back to nothing I would think is what we want to see because then that means we had one good surge to release the egg. BUT to be safe I would keep testing, and dtd at the same time.
