Unhappy will power!

I can't fight the stupid carb cravings, and i gain so much weight so quickly. Its like for a while i will do really well, sticking to the gym, eating healthy, then all of a sudden i stop. and it barely takes 2 wks before a put on 10lbs. I do enjoy working out, its just that horrible funk that comes on where i am absolutely miserable and i dont feel like doing anything. Please help! i need some good tips as to fighting cravings, and simply having will power! thank you.

Default Fight!

I don't know if I should even be replying because it's a case of "practice what you preach" but here it is....

I get the same way.. I have a treadmill and when I got it I walked on it everyday after work and before supper. ( If you excercise before you eat your body uses the calories right away instead of them turning into fat)
I was doing great, walking at least a mile, eventually 2 miles, doing weight watchers-unofficially( I didn't go to the meetings) and eating the real portion size. Low carb works of course for us cysters but I find it extremely hard to stick with so I have given up on that, however I do watch how much starchy foods I eat.
Anyway, what happened? I didn't do it one night because I pulled a 12 hour shift at work and that was the end!
For me, once I'm on a routine I'm good but if I miss just 1 day-I'm done.
When I feel like cheating though, I usually fight through it. Do something else to get your mind off of what your craving. You have to experiment and be realistic.. If you love pasta and bread, then don't deny yourself. Buy whole wheat pasta and whole grain bread.
You will find your mojo..
Find a diet or excercise buddy. It's harder to make an excuse not to go when theres someone else to go with you! Grab a friend and go for a walk- you'll talk to much you won't even realize how long you've walked. Plan a route and do it until it's cake. Then re-route so your walk is longer. Don't try to do too much all at once.
I tend to be long winded so I will end there.
I hope that helps.

I am not sure that success with diet and exercise is really about will power as much as it is about cultivating good habits, your beliefs and what you tell yourself about diet and exercise and planning for success - like having the ingredients to make meals and snacks that are reasonably health and suitable for your weight loss goal but also easy and quick enough to prepare and enjoyable enough so you don't opt for something like fast food that is conducive to your goals for weight loss.

It is good that you enjoy working out! Perhaps you could play around with the way you think about working out when you are in a funk (or for me - when I am feeling stressed -- or in a funk) -- in theory exercise should actually be helpful for getting out of a funk or dealing with stress.
