Default Will it be a problem?

Hello everyone.
I am 24 and diagnosed with pcos on monday......Very sad and scared!!!!!!!

I have a lot of the sympt. like hair on stomach and thighs but what I do not have is loss of hair..... My question is :if I do not have it now and I intend to loose the last 10kg. I need and avoid carbs. Is there still a risk that my hair will fall out??????
Please help me.... I canīt stop crying when I think about this.
Thank you.

I just got diagnosed on Monday, too! I don't know the answer to your question but I thought I'd say hi. I was scared about the same stuff -- my doctor told me that hair loss with PCOS is "rare" (she could have been lying but she's a doctor, so I hope not!). Are you taking any birth control or anything?

The doctor put me on bithcontrol pills called Cilest- never heard of them but hope they are going to do the trick.
It eases my worries to hear that your doctor told you that hair loss is rare- am going to believe she wasnīt lying .....
Thank you somuch for your reply....
What an awful situation we find ourselves in, eh?

Hi both of you, and welcome to SC. You will find a huge network of support on this site, and everyone is always willing to offer advice and support for any concerns.

As for hair loss, I just wanted to give you a little hope in that I dont suffer from that. I have many of the other PCOS symptoms, but not the hair loss - too much hair is my problem. Everyone has different levels and different variations of the symptoms, so try to stay as positive as possible and look after yourselves.

I want to welcome you to the site too

I am the unfortuante PCOSer in that yes I am losing my hair and I have been diagnosed with male pattern baldness at only 30 years old ....

I can tell you how my symptoms of hair loss appeard ....

I first noticed that I was thinning at the front of my head when I was 21 ... didnt realise femalse could get hair loss and was certainly never told about it .. so ignored it ..as the years went by I noticed that I would have to clean the hairs out of my hair brush every other day there was so much coming out .. yet still did nothing ... I had to keep cutting my hair as it was getting ratty and thinner it wasnt until I Was at a short bob that I realised HANG ON my hair ISNT growing ... I now have recessed temples, thinning all over and extensions in ! a wig is defo my future...

Just keep an eye out for any excesivve thinning ...you cant miss it ... andthen go and get some professional help DONT let any doctor fob you off the amount of times I was looked at like I was crazy ...

But it IS rare ....

My hair is thin, but i dont look bald. Its more that I can pull clumps out of my hair anytime of the day you ask me! Its my party trick. But mine must grow because it still looks the same, although I do have a high forehead.

I actually thought the hair loss was a fairly common symptom... at any rate *I* have it but it started young. In high school I noticed thin hair at my temples... I just assumed that's how I was. Makes me look like I have a very square forehead. Like Frankenstein. Compensated for years by having bangs but as hair got thinner on top of my head, bangs had a perment divide in them and that looked dumb so I grew out the bangs.

All the women on my dad's side of the family turn to wigs eventually. I kind of feel I'm fated for the same. But who knows, maybe if I can beat this PCOS...

At any rate... I would say if you haven't noticed it yet... don't worry. It may never happen. Not all women have all symptoms. I don't have problems with acne or skin tags for example. (Although I'd rather have acne than hair loss...)

To make you feel better, I have all the other symptoms of PCOS but do not have thin hair. The only time it fell out a lot was after I quit breastfeeding my kids...but they say you get a lot more hair when pregnant. Hope this makes you fell better!

I wsa diagnosed in July but I've had symptoms similar to yours for YEARS.... and my hair is doing just fine. It's not the thickest hair in the world, but that just runs in my family. I am taking Met and havent noticed anything more than a few hairs on the shower drain. Definitely nothing I or anyone else would notice

I just wanted to give a quick reply and also say welcome and there are tons of people here to "help" with your issues! I do not suffer from hair loss as far as they know. But I do lose a lot of my hair on a regular basis. It isn't anything that I am scared of anymore though. I am very lucky in the fact that you can't tell that I loose any hair; and also lucky that I don't have a full "monkey suit" as I've seen it refered to when you have hair all over/in the wrong places etc. But as for the weight loss; that is great in general for your over all health and I haven't known any connections to it helping/not helping you lose your hair.

Once a few years ago when I was very depressed I remember losing a lot of hair. Then later (when I felt better) I remember going to get my hair done and my stylist actually saying "Wow you have 'new growth' here" .. I had wispy, new hair growing on my head. Go figure. I guess my point is, try not to worry about it because I get the impression that being stressed out could possibly even cause hair loss? I don't know...

I hope that is why I lose hair from time to time too. Because I'm really stressed out! I help manage a group home for a company in MN. We have disabled children and adults with in our company. The one that I manange and the one that I do the "Live in" position at are both adults; but when you have MR your iq is lower and it is like being a child.
