I was thinking about getting DH a pocket cross for Christmas and I was wondering if Protestants even do that. Does anyone know if they will bless crosses or a crucifix?

Jan/Feb - Clomid 150mg, O'd, BFN
Feb/March - taking break due to 3-inch cyst
March/April - Clomid 150mg, praying...
If I am understanding this correctly, your DH is Protestant, and you want to get him a cross and have it blessed... Is that right?
I know I have friends who wear crosses on necklaces, but I don't know of any Protestant denominations offhand that "bless" them. For the most part, they're just jewelery that tells a bit about the wearer (though not always, as evidenced by porn stars and such wearing them).
I'm intrigued... I don't know why one would bless jewelery. What is the purpose behind it (serious question, not mocking)?

I don't see why not. At my church people have hyankerchief annointed and prayed over all the time for others. If you feel like doing that for him, then do it. Don't worry about what others think or do. Just ask the preacher, pastor, or whatever to pray over it for you.

Okay. It must be a denominational thing. I'm not familliar with "holy" objects, or objects being made holy, outside the Catholic church. As a Mennonite (former Catholic), it's just not something that I've come across in Protestant churches.

The only thing that will be blessed if you giving the gift out of love. Nothing here on earth is holy or can be made that way but following after Christ is a noble pursuit and part of that was sacrifice and giving of yourself. Blessing objects is just kind of odd...

bless it yourself
all you have to do is pray over it..anoint it, dedicate it to God and give it to him.
I had a friend who told me everything she bought she would dedicate to God.. gave her peace of mind and she never seemed to lose anything like the rest of us do.
So now I do too.
It is a thought and I felt that I could express it. I suppose it is a nice gesture but seeing how the gift is already going to be presented with love, why does it need a blessing? It is just a question...nothing to be imidated by.

It's a nice thought
Generally, Protestant tradition wouldn't bless an object. We tend to believe that God's blessings flow from a relationship with him through Christ and those blessings are things that make us more holy and Christlike. They come from prayer and practice of Christs teachings and from the will and mercy of God.
To bless an object might indicate that it confers some special protection or advantage for the wearer? However, God acts through our faith and our prayer, not through any ritual or object. In fact, he blesses and is merciful even to the wicked! He acts out of His divine will.
Sorry to get preachy, protestants are a bit annoying that way, I think.
As a baptist, I have never known anyone to pray to bless an object. We do, however, often pray over things, like a building or an offering, to dedicate it to God, to be used for His purposes, or to thank Him for providing it.

My husband and I got married in an Episcopalian church. DH is a Catholic and we got dispensation to do so. His very Italian and very Catholic Godmother bought us a beautiful crystal cross for our house (it could sit on a fireplace mantle, but since we don't have one it sits next to our wedding picture in our living room's bay window).
Ok... so to make a long story short: She brought it with her to the church when we got married and asked our protestant minister to bless it when he prepared the communion during our wedding ceremony. Our minister did so gladly and without question, even though it is not something he would normally do. I cherish that crystal cross and am glad that she had it blessed and that our minister understood the meaning that this would have to my new Catholic in-laws.
