Default Wilson's Syndrome?

Hi All,

So my doctor is considering trying me on a med called Naltrexone which supposedly blocks opiod receptors in the brain.....and for whatever reason it might help start a cycle (not sure as to how?). But no I'm not an alcoholic or drug user so that is not why I'd be prescribed this.....but has anyone had this before or heard of it??

Also he's considering me for Wilson's Syndrome which he's having me chart my body temperature 3 times a day for 5 days. It is supposedly a subclinical form of hypothyroidism (ie: my TSH values are fine but my T3 seems lower than my reverse T3...). In this case, he'd treat me with a T3 drug that is compounded at a special pharmacy here in Omaha. I am a little concerned because this seems to be a very contriversial "syndrome" that has not really been found legit....similarly it seems as though using T3 could cause serious side effects (cardiovascular related). Has anyone heard of this or taken this med or anything?? I would appreciate some direction!

Anyways, sorry for the random questions, but I'm kinda feeling lost and thoguht I'd see if anyone has heard of these things or had experience with these meds. If you can point me in any direction I'd be VERY greatful!

Default thyroid on my mind

Hi,
This thyroid issue has actually been on my mind lately because I was looking through my medical records before I had my son (almost 5 years ago using Clomid and HCG trigger) and while I was pg and my T3 and T4 were always wacky but my TSH was always fine. I was charting my cycles at the time using the Creighton Ovulation Method and I sent it off to Dr. Hilgers at the Pope Paul VI institute in Omaha. Is that who you are seeing, by chance? He wrote me back that he was working on a T3/T4 problem that affected fertility and that that might be my problem. Is that Wilson's Syndrome?

So, when I came across this letter again this week I was wondering if any more progress had been made in this area. I thought I would write him again and ask. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with #2 right now but our choices are limited being Catholic. I'm hoping that the protocol that worked to help us conceive our son will help us conceive another miracle. I am seeing my doctor in two weeks who was trained at the Institute in Omaha.

I'm also curious about the Naltrexone and how that works. Have you found out anymore about it yet? I guess you would know if the T3 medicine works if you get a cycle on your own. Out of curiousity, are you a thin cyster? Is your PCOS insulin-resistant or non-insulin resistant?

I hope you get your answers. Let us know what you find out.

Hi,

Actually yes, I am seeing Dr. Hilger's And yes it is also because I am Catholic, and while I'm not married I really do not want to go onto bcp since it would just cover up the problem. I have been charting via Creighton Model method since July. Currently I am on 1000mg Met a day, and I have the temperature charts done for the T3/T4 study but have yet to take them over to the institute. I am uncertain if my temps are low enough (98.2) but I guess I will have to see after Dr. Hilgers reviews them. If he decides to have me try it, I will have to wait till I am back home in January I think since it is a dose that is slowly titrated and is carefully watched.

My cycles right now (when dr Hilgers reviewed them a week ago) have been crazy extended mucus cycles.....which makes me nervous about being able to efficiently (both to avoid and to attain pregnancy) use the Creighton model once I'm married in about 2 years.....but I'm hoping that we might look into some progesterone supplimentation since we are still trying to get a Peak + 7 reading since I have "peaks" all over the place.

I am afraid it is hard for me to explain the Naltrexone since I'm not really sure what Dr. Hilgers was going to use it for. It might have just been another way to induce a cycle, but if it ends up being a way to regulate cycles, I will definitely let you know.

And gosh, I WISH I was thin. No, in the last year and a half I put on about 40lbs, and I'm having a horrible time trying to get them off.....even after about 5 weeks on Met (yes I'm moderately IR). I exercise regularly and eat pretty healthy, so it is really frustrating. So I'm not sure what will eventually help me with this......I am hoping that getting my cycles "normalized" would help, but I don't know. I also struggle with fluid retention which is really frustrating.

But thanks for your story, and I will definitley keep you updated on stuff. Is there any advice you can offer for me of things you tried over the last years? Also, I actually probably don't have PCOS. My last appointment last week, my androgen levels were fine as well as the FSH/LH.....so I have no clue what is going on. If my FSH/LH were fine....I really doubt though, that I have any surges, because I can't imagine I"m ovulating now with the weirdness of my cycles.

Anyways.....sorry for the boatload of info.....just feels good to get it off my chest to someone who understands the Creighton Model!
