Both the endo and gyna I was reffered to by my GP seem to lack much knowlege/interest of pcos and it's been rather frustrating. I was wondering does anyone knows of a good endocrinologist and gynacologist in Winnipeg?
I'm from Winnipeg and area, but I don't have any clue what you could do next. I was never referred to a specialist for the PCOS (except for the RE). My gp was aware of PCOS, and put me on Metformin when I requested it. If you want her name, send me a pm.

Thanks for your response! My endo is the one who treats my pcos and I was put on met at my request. He lacks understanding and hasn't sent me for much of any follow up tests. My Gyn is the same way. What I'm looking for is a doctor who knows what tests I should be sent for and can give me more answers/feedback to my questions regarding pcos. My GP is a good doctor but he doesn't treat my pcos. I recently found a website that gives feedback on Manitoba doctors, there is one that I'm now looking into making an appointment with. Thanks again!
Hi there two years ago i was sent by my doctor to the winnipeg clinic for absent periods. I was sent to Dr. Richardson (female) Who diagnosed me with PCOS. I felt very comfortable with her she was friendly calm and re assuring. I would absolutly recommend her! Hope i was of some help
yes you can still see a dr at heartland, but must be referred by your doctor. I was referred after having my 1st child as i developed pcos after delivering and because i would still like to have children in the future, i was referred. So if your planning to have children you should be able to get a referral, so you know whats happening to your body and prepared when you want to conceive
I actually did not have a very good experience with Dr. Richardson.
I was sent there because a hormone (can't remember which one) was very high and they were concerned it was causing a tumor. My GP recognized that I have PCOS and thought I should see an endo to make sure the PCOS wasn't causing the problem. I found out it was the PCOS and I'm okay.
Even though Dr Richardson seemed to be knowledgable, I found her to be very standoffish. She wasn't too concerned about PCOS. I asked her if going on metformin was a good idea because a doctor had suggested it to me. Her response was more or less "I think that is a bad idea. Just lose weight". Easier said then done as I am sure that you can imagine. I left feeling frustrated.
I have heard that Dr Wong (that his name?) is very similar. It is not necessarily that they are bad people but I think they either lack compassion and/or interest in PCOS. I have considered calling the women's clinic downtown to see if they could get a support group going with a doctor or nurse.

Really? Good to know... im new to this PCOS thing I just went and saw her almost two years ago. I know no one else who has it and am the first and only one in my family to have it. I noticed she did shy away fromt he metaformin but i thought it was cause i was only seventen at the time. Instead she said i could go on birth control which i agreed to cause of my acne and abnormal hair growth.
Hello there...I'm from winnipeg and I've seen a few doctors...I saw dr. burnett at HSC she's a gynecologist...very knowledgable and diagnosed me with PCOS and did 2 months of clomid...Dr. Cowden is an endocrinologist--saw her once and was then refered to Dr. Kredentser of the heartland clinic...how ever I'm not seeing him there so I haven't had to pay for anything yet ...anyways....
