Default Wisdom Teeth (Arrrrrgh!)

Hey guys, My bottom wisdom teeth have been coming through since October last year.

They're only just showing, One of them is completely painless now, But the other is being extremely terrible.

Its hurting the teeth next to it and its making that half of my face hurt, especially my inner ear. Did anyone go through this and have it come through ok?

I ask this because i have severe dental phobia and i would really like to avoid having to go there, Because whenever i get stressed something in my body makes me so weak i nearly pass out... If i go there i will probably faint lol (Thats another story)

What do i do I am so scared!

Mine hurt like hell right now in fact.
My uncle is a dentist and told me when I first started having pain that many people have their wisdom teeth removed when they really dont need to. Its just a money making scheme for some dentists. If you do end up considering dental treatment, ask your dentist what their first line treatment would be.
Mine are coming in on an odd angle from a lot of people, but my uncle/dentist x-rays them every now and then. Sometimes they cause throat infections so I either do the tea+honey or if its really bad, get a course of antibiotics. As for the pain, I've learnt to grin and bear it because I don't like popping pills.
I hear cloves are good for a toothache, but I think you are actually meant to put them on the tooth, which isn't a good plan if the tooth hasn't come through yet.

If your afraid to have them pulled, ask you Dentist if he can't knock you our during the procedure. That's what they did for me! I slept through the whole thing.

Many Dentist are trained to deal with people with phobias. I found my dentist at 1800-dentist and one of the questions they asked me was I afraid of the dentist and did I need one the knew how to handle someones fears. I loved the Dentist they found for me. She was great. Unfortunately I had to move away. Now I have to find a new one.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 15, just a few months after getting my braces off (6 yrs worth of them!), and they started coming up...instead of letting the wisdom teeth ruin so many years worth of dental work (not to mention my mouth wasn't big enough for them), we opted to have them all pulled. they had me come in at 7 am and knocked me out for the procedure, and I was back at home by 9 am.

it's one thing if the teeth aren't bothering you, but if they are causing a lot of pain, then something needs to be done.

That happened to me a few years back. I decided since my wisdom teeth werent giving me issues they would stay put. I had to have a back molar pulled and my wisdom tooth ended up coming in fine in that space but it started giving me problems. That one was pulled which wasnt too bad at all for the dentist because it wasnt impacted and was already out. Then like a year later I felt one coming through my gums and it was coming through the side and just a very sharp point. It killed me. The other 2 were impacted and that one was too but it was the only one that was coming out. I was terrified of being put out so it was hard to find someone who would do the procedure that involved with them being so impacted with me fully awake but I finally did. So I had that one taking out and was cut open and everything and did fine awake with just novacaine. A few weeks later the other top one was starting to hurt so I had the same thing happen with that one. So I still have one bottom very impacted wisdom tooth in which they have choose to leave alone and we are hoping it doesnt cause me issues. With all that said I wish I would have gotten them out in high school when I was told they were impacted and needed to come out. I am very scared of the dentist and make that very clear. If you want to be put out most dentists seem to prefer it that way. For me it was the opposite that I wanted to be awake but it all worked out.

Ha ha, its sounds like I could have written this myself!! I too have a wisdom tooth coming in that is ridiculous and am dentist-phobic! (Though, Ive had one of my front teeth BROKEN off 3 different times then had to have a root canal done on it...couple that with overal bad teeth from not taking care of them as a kid and that equals severe dental phobia)

My other 3 wisdom teeth came in and hurt, but not like the one thats coming in right now. Ive been in so much pain and its affecting my ability to eat, drink and even talk so I actually made an appointment to see a dentist! (lets hope I dont have a meltdown while I am there) I go in Monday afternoon and will let you know what happens. Lol!

Good luck Mills89 (love the dancing cat) and Lindsay71105.

All four of my wisdom teeth are still only halfway through my gums. My dentist always compliments me on taking excellent care of my teeth; however, he also occassionally reminds me that my wisdom teeth need to come out. I have been in no hurry to do so because they haven't hurt me in years. The most they ever do is cause my gums (face) to swell every few years as they attempt to break thru the surface a little more. I've been blessed. I think I'll hold onto them until I can afford to get braces. (I have a gap in the front of my mouth. I'm used to it, but it causes my bite to be off, so it's affecting the overall mechanical condition of my mouth.

I am terrified of the dentist and let me tell you having my wisdom teeth pulled was easier than a teeth cleaning. I went in, they put me to sleep and I woke up less than an hour later. I had no pain afterwards, needed no pain meds and had no complications what so ever. Heck, if they hadn't shown me the teeth afterward I might not have believed that they pulled them out. I really suggest that you get them checked and pulled if they are causing sinus problems and such it will only get worse. Good luck!

So, I just got back from the dentist....first of all, I actually made it in the door and didnt pass out or have a nuclear meltdown!(I know, small victory, but victory none the less!)

So, I have to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon. I will be knocked out, so I wont have to hear what they are doing. Also, I explained my phobia and my general dislike for dentists, so I have a prescription for valium to be taken the night before I go in so I dont freak out. (wow, now I feel like a druggie......)

The reason this last tooth is being sssooo painful is because it is coming in at an extreme angle where it is physically impossible for it to even break the surface. Which is also why I am required to have an oral surgeon as well as be put under. (And since one is being taken out, the surgeon decided to just take them all out in one shot. lol)

So, Im not looking forward to having the procedure done, but at the same time, I cant wait for the cause of my pain to be gone!!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, my dentist said that if you are experiencing major swelling, (not consistant with normal teething-type swelling) and/or start running a fever, it is advised to see a dentist right away or even go to an urgent care type place as this is a sign of infection.

My advice to you is to go to the dentist and at get the xrays done and see what they say. At that point you can make the decision if you want any treatment or not. This way you will at least know what you are working with.

I went through this. and got past it. and like you, my face hurt. but i could not open my mouth all the way and it felt like that one tooth was pushing all my teeth forward.....omg! just thinking about it makes my eyes water.....i think i went through that for a month and it seems now that they are fully in, i seem to be alright..... just hang in there. load yourself up on advil, tylonal (your pain drug of choice) and try your best to keep yourself comfertable. thats the best you can do.....if it still hurts in a couple weeks time...bite your lip and go to the dentist. it will pay off in the end...

OH! do NOT use orajel or any other tooth pain medications. they don't work, they just make it worse. my dentist acutally told me that. he said advil/tylonal works like a charm!

So, I had all 4 of my teeth removed today. It was nice the IV sedation kicked in immediately. I think my surgery lasted until about 4 or 5 but it felt like a 10 minute nap....and thats including the few hours I slept at home too.

Right now I am experiencing a little pain but it almost feels exactly how it did before I went to the dentist. But, instead of it being on 1 side, its on both...not bad really. I feel really weird right now because I am still half numb. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Did you decide to see a dentist??

So, I just wanted to post a small update, my surgery started at 3 and, like I said before, lasted until 4 or 5. I had little to NO bleeding what-so-ever. I have not taken more than 1 pain pill and that was about 7 or 8 last night, and I am in no pain today! I feel like I have been laughing too much or had my mouth open too long, its the kind of muscle tired-ness that Im feeling right now, but its not pain!! And it definitely does not feel nearly as painful as when the tooth was trying to come out.

I guess Im lucky because I had all 4 removed yesterday, not a whole lot of bleeding, no real visible swelling, (except my lips) and no bruising. Ive been told that it can take a few days for everything to start showing, but as of now, I feel great and so happy that i had mine removed!!

Good luck to you.
