Is it wise to take Clomid and not be monitored by my RE?
Hi....
I have a clomid refill left from last year (we took a break) I haven't been back to my RE since. I was just looking for some opinions as to whether it is a good idea to take clomid unmonitored. I have never had any problems with cysts in the past(when getting u/s's)
What do you think...any suggestions? Has anyone done this?
The reason I ask is that I have a 2 hour travel time to see my RE and the amount of time that I have to see him...it ate up all of my time off work and left me hanging at the end of the year. (Lame excuse I know! I am trying to fined someone local..)
I appreciate anything you have to offer.

I tend to be less conservative (as you know) but I would imagine the risks are relatively low. You aren't going to get OHSSon just clomid, so I would say the most risky thing is not knowing exactly when you are going to O, or if you did at all. If you are okay with that, you are probably okay.

Would the RE monitor follies? I can certainly understand the temptation; my only concern would be multiples - twins are not all the uncommon on Aunt Clo, and you hear of occasional triplets. Just be aware of the risks, at least.
Thanks!
Yep I am well aware of the risk! My RE did monitor follies. I am trying so hard to lose weight and now if I can even lose 20+ lbs I will have a better chance. I have been on BCP just to keep AF regular but I so want to come off of them.
I did clomid previously days 5-9. Anyone do 3-7 and think it has a better chance? Just curious!!

I was barely monitored while I was on Clomid (out of 4 rounds, I only went in once mid cycle to get checked), so I think it's fine to do if your only concern is being monitored (assuming you have no 'reason' to be monitored).
I took Clomid days 3-7 on all my cycles except 3, which I did CD5-9. I O'd twice on CD3-7, so that's what ultimately worked for me. I had done 3-7 twice and only O'd once, so I switched it up to do 5-9 just to see if that would make a difference, and it didn't (at least not a positive one). So I say you might as well try 3-7.

My RE gave a script for clomid, a slip for a P4 drawn on CD21 and told me to up my dose if it shows I dont O....Thats as much monitoriing as I got
I did 50mg Cd-5-9 and O'ed on CD38 the first round, so my 2nd round I did 150mg Cd5-9 and O'ed on CD21 and now have 2 very active 22month olds!!
I guess its not advisable to do really, but its definately happens out there....I was a little sad (but happy) that my Re didnt want to monitor me more, but glad cause It was an hours drive each way and I worked shift work and it would of been difficult to schedule appts...
All the best!

Any plain old OB could monitor your follies - just look in the phonebook and find a local one in the yellow pages who has infertility listed in their specialities. Since it's just clomid and you haven't moved on to the bigger guns yet, it doesn't HAVE to be an RE. I'll be seeing an OB to start TTC in the fall.
I'm just paranoid about these things, since Clo, very rarely, does lead to a large number of follies. Either way I wish you luck, though.
I wasn't monitored on clomid, either. I was given an RX and sent on my way, told to call in three months if I wasn't pg. It wasn't until injectables that I really was looked at closely.

One other question...I know there are vitamins that DH can take to help his swimmers....Any ideas?
