WLS 5 year medical proof for insurance kinda confused
Hi all..It is me, I know I have been gone for a while but I had to get my head together...now things are looking very positive..I need some advice please...
I need a diagnosis of morbid obesity for a five year period of time....I am not sure what that means...does it mean I need to have gone to the doctor at least once a year and he was supposed to have diagnosed me ever year? Or does it mean they need proof that I have been obese 5 years ago. I am not sure what it means. Did anyone elses insurance need that verification and if so what did you send them to get approval for the surgery?
Thank you so much for everythinhg I really love you all. Pat aka Luna

what it means is the insurance wants to know what illness you have had over the last five years that are from your weight. Like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apenia, thyroid disease, female problems like pcos, anything like that. Have you had heart disease, high cholesterol, anything linked to your weight. Your doctor has to send that information in to the insurance and your wls surgeon. I just went through all that two months ago to get my surgery done which was just in june.

Mine wanted to make sure that i have been a 40bmi+ for 3 years. However, I was due to diet success/failure. So, we sent in 5 years of dr notes to show my weight for the past 5 years has been always over 37 bmi. This way your insurance knows that you didnt just gain the weight & want surgery. It shows that this has been your life & you need help.

Most likely they want to make sure that your BMI is over 40 for a minimum of 5 years. But if you want a clear definition then call your insurance company direcly and ask them so that you don't waste your time providing them the incorrect information. Good luck!!

yes that's also correct they wanted to know about my BMI. But they also wanted to know all of my health problems for the pass five years. It was to show the insurance that due to weight problems I was having health issues. I think its really what type of insurance you have.
