I also saw my GP on Friday to see what he thought or if he had an other suggestions. He thought it was a good idea and he said that the BMI hospitals have a good reputation, he also said he would be in contact with them.
The Sandringham have done 14 lap bands, the option they suggest for me, and they've had a good success rate. The after care sounds pretty good- but then you're paying nearly £8,0000.
I had read quite a lot before hand, but I hadn't realised there would be some foods you can't eat once the band is in place- I thought you just ate much less. Some things I can easily forgo, but I will miss mushrooms, steak and nuts!
However, the nurse also pointed out that the procedure is reversible- and it's about relearning your eating habits, so maybe once I've lost a reasonable amount of weight, and got my head round the smaller portions and everything in moderation I'd eventually get it removed.
I also think the prospect of saggy skin would be an extra incentive to swim more and do aerobics more frequently.
Now my big problem- I've still not told DH, which I know is ridiculous. He knows I went to the hospital, I think he thinks it was some girly problem that he doesn't need to know about. The trouble is I think he'll panic at the word surgery and laugh at how much it costs. It's not that we can't afford it- I don't have all the money but could easily get a loan or something- it's just when you think of the holidays, or other great stuff you could get with that money. One part of me is thinking that £8000 could easily go on fertility treatments that would fail because of my weight but, in the back of my mind I think my fertility problems are more than just my weight, so I had already moved onto the idea of adopting from overseas- which costs big money!!!
Anyway, I'm off to see what DH has to say, it may be that the surgeon, doesn't approve me or my GP says I should try other weight loss options first.

My Mood: Points: 1,512.29 Bank: 0.01 Total Points: 1,512.29 | I'm glad your appointment went well. Regarding the foods you can't eat, everybody is different and evey day is different. I have no problem with eating steak or mushrooms (i don't like nuts) but i can't eat bread. Before my band bread was my most favourite food in the whole world, i could quite happily lived off sandwichs for the rest of my life. For the first couple of weeks i was sad that i couldn't eat bread and i would say even morned it, but now even though i can eat toast, i just don't bother.
It does change your attitude to food, for example before i would have felt quilty about eating cheese, but now because the amount that i eat is so much less i don't stress about it.
I was very luck and didn't have the money option to worry about, but if like me you want to be a mummy then it's definately worth every penny. If you've had a look on WLS divas there are 10 ladies who say they wouldn't be mummies or mummies to be if it weren't for WLS. Kirsty (Goddess819) was ttc for eight years unsucessfully and got pregnant the first month she was able to ttc after WLS. Nikki (sassyred) had WLS for the same reason and got pregnant first month as well.
For me even if i don't manage to conceive at least i know i've given it my all.
My husband was very worried about me having surgery because of the risks involved as i have a family history of DVT's and i have dodgy legs to begin with. But he gave me his full support when he knew i would rather die than continue to live half a life, which i felt is what i was doing.
Good luck with telling your husband, and i hope whatever you decide you get all the support you need. Feel free to PM me any time if there is anything i can help with

I completely agree about the money side- as I may have said earlier, I think I may go the overseas adoption route in which case I'll need the money. But, DH really doesn't understand what it's like to be overweight or have any weight issues.
So for the moment I'm back on the low carb diet, I'm debating whether to go back on the metformin. I just need to get back into exercising, but work is so crappy at the moment, when I come home I just want to escape online, or relax in front of the tv or Wii. Plus my feet need to recover from walking miles around Prague last week.

I am so sorry that your dh isn't keen on the surgery. |

I hope all goes well for you in the future for you whatever you decide x

I think if I did decide, the surgery would go ahead fairly swiftly, and with my job I really couldn't take time off til the summer, so that gives me a few months thinking time.
Unfortunately I am rubbish at Wii sports, though DH has perfected the bowling while sitting down which does defeat the purpose rather!
