Unhappy Women of Colour and Hair Growth

Hi all,

I'm sorry for the really weird topic heading but I didn't know how else to phrase this. I've done some reading and it suggests that dark skin doesn't respond well to laser hair removal or electrolysis, so now I'm left wondering, what can I do?

The last two years have seen me go from plucking 5 or 6 stray hairs on my chin to epilating 2x a week on my chin, jaw and side burns. I'm so horrified by it all. My SO says you can only notice it in certain light but this is the same person looks in the fridge and says there is no cheese when it's on the top shelf, front and center. lol.

I just don't know what my options, and I'm wondering if there are any women of colour or minorities on this site and what have they done to sucessfully combat the hair growth.

I hope this is in the right place and doesn't offend anyone. Should I do this in the Ethnicities forum?

Girl, honestly I'm in the same boat as you. As a black woman everyday I'm looking for new ways to get this hair off my face. For about two years now though I've been using Sally Hansen's hair remover for coarse hair and its been working pretty good. As a teenager all we really had was nair and nair does not work well on coarse hair.

but anyway I use that right now but I'm also looking for other less smelly ways to remove the hair. Cause cremes always have this burning smell but Sally Hansen so far is the best cream I've used. good luck. If you run into something better, please message me!!

It does. Many cysters have used CoolGlide and Gentle Yag with great success.

Probably others, too.

There are several discussion links on Laser and Darker Skin here (scroll down till you get to that section): LASER vs ELECTROLYSIS for PCOS (links to many discussions - START HERE)

I am so sorry I forgot about this thread, but I am so thrilled that there are answers and I'm learning about other options. I'm still epilating...and the pain is...well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. lol. I hope that we can continue building this thread. :-)

I have found Lazer hair removal to be very effective.. I am a woman of color and it really works. No stubble or nothing.. I am in Pa and only one lazer center has the type of machine for my skin complexion.
