I had my f/u and started on met yesterday. Once again, I was thrilled with the office and with Dr. M.

Default Biopsy results - good news/bad news

So, I had an appointment with Dr. Minassian to get my results this morning. Here's the breakdown.

Good news - There was no evidence of cancer in the tissue sample they took during the last biopsy.

Bad news - They did not get enough tissue and/or tissue from the correct part of the uterus.

Worse news - We had to redo the test during my visit this morning. It was much more painful than the first test, with more cramping and more bleeding. (Sorry, I know that's kinda gross.) And I completely wasn't mentally prepared for it. Now, I have to wait two more weeks to get results.

He said that if the sample isn't good enough this time, then we would need to do a D&C surgery. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we got what we needed this time.

I just saw Dr. Minassian for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I finally got a pcos diagnosis as well as a prescription for met (my insurance won't cover fortamet- that's a whole nother story!). I couldn't believe how patient and supportive he was. Unfortunately he told me that he's moving to Reading to head a program there. Are you guys planning to see him in Reading or change to a different doctor in the practice. Do you know anything about the other docs? Also does anyone see a good ob/gyn that actually knows about pcos? All of my previous ones have brushed off my concerns about possibly having pcos because I didn't exactly fit the profile.

I saw Dr. Minasssian for my endometriosis and biopsy, but he's not the doctor treating my PCOS. There is a great specialist at the Drexel Center for Women's Health (across the street from Dr. Minassian's Center City office). Her name is Katherine Sherif. She's very patient, talks you through everything.

How I came to see Dr. Sherif --> I actually went into Drexel because I had a really bad cold that wasn't getting any better, it was a few blocks from my job, and it was the only place I could get an appointment quickly. (I ended up having the flu.) During my medical history they noticed there were some peculiar things happening and referred me to Dr. Sherif, who I was able to see the next week. She was incredibly thorough and explained everything and all of my options as well as why she preferred to give me a particular treatment over another. I had never even heard of PCOS before my visit with Dr. Sherif, but I left the appointment feeling like I was in good hands. That was March 2006, and I still see her and think she's great.

Thanks! I think I'll just ask Dr. M. who he recommends when I see him next week.

Did anyone else get the dreaded letter from Dr. M saying he's moving offices? I'm really bummed.

I am SO bummed! I got the letter a while ago. I am trying to get their office in Bala so I can get my records sent to me and I can't even get anyone on the phone. I would definetly go to Reading if it were 30 min or so away but it is 75min+ away. So I am not sure what to do because I really like him. I would need to take an entire day off of work and probably would need to keep going back to get the tests done. I don't know, I might just go take the drive out there.

Actually, I drive 2.5 hours to see him. He gives me prescription orders to have blood work drawn at my local doctors office, and then they fax him the results. He knows how far away I live and makes it as easy on me as possible. I am PG now and he can't treat me again until after the baby, but previous to that, he only had me make the trip like once every 2-3 months. Well worth it in my book. Plus, if you make an appt with him at the Reading office, he should already have your records. I don't remember having to transfer mine. Whenever I get test results, etc, he just calls me and tells me about them, I can also call his nurse, Nancy to get my prescriptions mailed to me for refills, etc. He gives me 1 yrs worth of refills at a time. I wouldn't be PG right now without him, I just can't say enough nice things about Dr. M.

I am so glad you posted this Stephie! I was starting to wonder if I really should keep my appointment. Everyone is telling me I am crazy to drive 1.5 hrs to see the dr. But knowing that I can have the tests done locally is great. I loved him when I first met him and would love to keep going. I am so happy to hear you are a new mommy! Congrats!!!

I feel a lot better about it now, thanks!
