Hi
Just diagnosed with PCOS only because I was not satisfied with the diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue.
Bloods showed above aver testosterone and thyroid antibodies but not TSH. Is this normal for PCOS or is it possible to have a thyroid issue as well. Dr's not really taking interest in the antibodies but I see they are rising.
Any body with simular story?
If you have thyroid antibodies, then your thyroid isn't right! Find a doctor who will treat your thyroid (and you most likely have some symptoms too I'm assuming) and your PCOS if it's possible.
Good luck, hun.

Symptoms ???? I have so many its not funny - well it can be really
I guess its hard to know whats pcos and whats thyroid. Will get it check out tho. Would an endo be the person to know about both?
You sound like me...I just found out I am Hypothyroid...well I suspected for a long time, but finally just found a Dr. who would confirm it. My tests always came back in the "normal" range.
Anyway, Yes definitely get your thyroid checked. Get a TSH, Free T3 & Free T4, Ferrintin, and an antibody test done.
Find a Dr. that knows how to diagnos & treat the thyroid. Check out the website for the natural hormone Armour. They have a link with recommended Dr.s in your area....
I was very tired all the time...was always told I was depressed and given anti-depressants....
I am finally starting to feel better with Armour...
Good Luck.

Thanks for the post. I too am sooooo tired. I am now exercising for 20min to 30min most days and then going to work 4 days/wk. I get home and just want to hit the sack.
The only BW that showed anything was antibodies. The Dr's dont think that there is anything wrong until something shows in the TSH ones. Is this right?
Do endo's know about thyroids too?
Endos should know about thyroid but some of them only specialize in diabetes and know very little about thyroid.
Sometimes you need to find a separate doctor to treat you for that- for instance the doctor that finally treated me properly for my thyroid was a naturopath. My RE admitted straight out that she wasn't comfortable managing my thyroid.

I second the naturopath. I am seeing one now and he was/is the first to tell me I wasn't crazy. Most Dr.s will just run a TSH test and that really doesn't tell you anything. The Free T3 & Free T4 tests give a better look at the picture. You should fall in the upper 1/3 of the range given in those catagories. If on the low end, you might need some medication....
I am still feeling tired most days, but not until the afternoon. I am still upping my dosage of ARmour so I will find the right amount eventually. Fatigue was/is my biggest complaint...but I have many other symptoms as well.

I noted the link to Special Little Smiles. Do you have a 'special need' child?
My youngest daugter has Down Syndrome and I will check out the formum.
Come on over!!! The site was started by a cyster! It's great and there's a TON of information and support over there. The women there are truly AWESOME! No drama, no problems. They're great.
Ok, back to the topic at hand...I'm with Shenacat about endos being diabetes docs and not thyroid docs. It's hard to find a decent doc who actually ~gasp~ listens!

You can go to the Armour website. They have a link that you enter your zip code and it will list Dr.'s that prescribe Armour. Since it is all Natural, a lot of the Dr.'s listed are Naturopaths...
You can also try doing a search on the internet by entering your state name and then Naturopath...ex."TN Naturopathy doctors" and see if you have any luck. Maybe check the yellow pages for starters too, check out their websites if available ...

Your dr should be taking interest for sure as high antibodies are indicative of hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) a disease in which your thyroid is under attack by the elevated antibodies and in the process it slowly kills your thyroid, you also tend to swing from hypothyroid to hyperthyroid to eurothyroid (euro is when your thyroid is at a normal functioning level) I have Hashimoto's & it's funny you mention you having PCOS because i suspect i have that too ( i heard the 2 go hand in hand) BTW you can have a normal TSH reading & still have high antibodies & eventually you will need to go on thyroid hormone replacement. You need to bring this up to your dr & be aggressive about it. If he/she is not willing to listen then you should get a 2nd opinion as soon as possible.

2 things ( and experience has taught me): The TSH means NOTHING if you have high antibodies attacking your thyroid, yes it means that there is something wrong & eventually your thyroid will stop functioning properly (or totally) hence you will need hormone replacement. Second, dont waste your time or money on endocrinologists, almost all are very well trained when it comes to diabetes and most know NOTHING about how to properly diagnose & treat thyroid disease. After 2 endo's & fighting to stay well (i suffered nearly 2 years) & ending up firing both,i now just have my pcp & an ent dr. I was on Synthroid for a little over a year but in the long run & didnt have really good success with it (had anothe antibodies test, a blood test called 'Thyroglobulin Antibodies' on 10/27 & the number was 773! There are reported numbers higher than that, though) so i started Armour Thyroid (one of the generics called just 'Thyroid') almost 2 weeks ago...so far great results.
