Default Work Blues

I'm just wondering if anyone has problems with going to work. I've been depressed on and off for the past years or so. It's probably been longer than that but it's really come to a head in the past year. I was put on fluoxetine by my doctor but I didn't really want to take anti-depressents so after about 3 months I just stopped taking them. I'd read about withdrawls after taking pills for a long time and to be honest fluoxetine made me feel worse. I probably could have tried something else but I'd like to avoid them if at all possible.

For a few months I'd been doing okayish. I started a new job, got a new b/f and everything seemed fine but lately things have started to grow worse and worse. I'm snappy, paranoid and feeling very low at times.

The biggest problem I seem to have is going to work and the only thing I can think of this being related to is depression. I dread going there each day and when I'm there the urge to pack my bags and walk out is overwhelming at times. I'm frightened that I'm going to lose my job because some days I just can't make myself go. Partly it's also to do with fatigue and ovary pain at times too but mostly I just have the desire to stay in my house no matter what. I sometimes feel like that when I'm at my b/f's too and I have to come home.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with my job, I like the people and I like what I do so I can't understand why I'm feeling like this.

I started by temping for 3 months and they liked me so much they gave me a permanent job. I'm just out of my probationary period so I don't know where I stand legally if I took some proper time off to try and get myself together. It's all worrying me so much which no doubt makes me worse. I feel like such a loser!

Does anyone else have problems like this? pr find it hard to work?. I don't know if I'm just lazy or this is all linked with depression and PCOS. I suspect that is because I've never been like this before but I could just be crazy.

I would still like to avoid taking pills if I can I'd rather treat the cause instead of the symptoms.

I'm just hoping that I'm not the only one who gets like this someone please tell me I'm not a nutcase

Yes, I am the same way. I just told in another thread too so bear w/me if you have read it twice, (the other thread was about my Social Anxiety). Anyhow, I was put on Paxil a couple years ago and it really helped a lot! TREMENDOUSLY...I don't want to go back on it though because it is sooooo hard to get off of. But it did change my life. Though now that I have been off for so long things are getting worse again and I'm afraid the only thing that I'm going to be able to do is go back on something. I do have to say though, I can understand you being against going on any pills, but I (and i'm no expert so don't quote me) in my opinon, I don't think that the pills just treat the symptoms, I think it treats the "cause". Well some of them anyhow...like SSRI's...fix the way the serotonin receptors in your brain or working...and that is why you feel better, because then things are working the way they are supposed to. I was much better for a very long time after I stopped taking the paxil and even though I'm getting worse now, I'm still better than I ever was before I started taking it...so I definitely think that it works on the cause. Just my opinion though. Anyhow, I am sorry that I can't be much more help than that...except to say that you could try and check the "alternative remedies" board because there are natural things you can take (vitamins and such) that can help instead of prescription meds...if you want to try that route instead. Talk to your doc as well and Good luck and I hope that you are feeling better soon.
