I have been trying a new way of treating blackheads that is working really well for me and I thought I'd share. I am using St. Ives Apricot Scrub for acne (has salicylic acid in it) a couple times a week. But, instead of just scrubbing my face with it, I put a thin layer all over my face in the shower after cleansing and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I gently rub my face to get the exfoliating effect and rinse off. My blackheads and enlarged pores have never looked better. I expect this would work with any exfoliating scrub that contains salicylic acid; the key is letting it sit long enough for the acid to disolve the oil in your pores.
For the record, I have fairly oily skin, but sensitive skin and am prone to mild to moderate acne.

for what it's worth, a friend told me a while that her facialist recommended against apricot scrubs. Apparently, the apricot is too harsh of an exfoliator and can cause more harm to your skin.

Wow good to know, might rethink buying some more

basically the pits are ground up and wind uup having very sharp edges, which make microscopic cuts in your skin and could increase irritation and infection.
Neutrogena makes an acne mark fading peel that has exfoliating beads which are smoother and is also a salicylic acid base if you're looking for a replacement. I'm sure there are others too.

I heard that before that you shouldn't use apricot scrubs, but I find scrubs with "beads" in them to not be exfoliating enough. I am very gentle when I rub the apricot scrub on my face and I have never had any problems. In fact, after a lifetime of trying almost every skin product out there, St. Ives Apricot scrub is the one product I have liked for over 10 years now. Come to think of it, it is probably the only bath or beauty product I had in high school that I still use now.

I'm currently using Murad, and am happy with it, but the top layer of my skin just seems to sit there and get dull. Clay masks obviously don't exfoliate enough. He doesn't make a scrub (at least not to my knowledge), and I know St. Ives is inexpensive.
How long do you leave it on? While you're shampooing/conditioning or shaving?
I also use the St. Ives apricot scrub. I has very sensative skin. So sensative that all soap will give me rashes. I also get horrible acne and super dry skin. The st. ives is almost the only product that I can use without any flare ups and I use it nightly. It's also really affordable, which I love

I bought some of the apricot scrub this weekend and tried it. My skin has really improved! It just exfoliates the dead skin away and makes my skin super soft. You don't have to rub really hard either (which is probably what makes people think it would be too harsh).
