I just had the worst doctor appointment ever. It was my first infertility appt. and Dr. says I have to have gastric bypass, otherwise my chances of conceiving a child is 0 I'm so scared and depressed. My pcos is worse than I thought. Any advice or encouragement strongly needed.

What reasons did your doc give?? I see your ticker says you are trying to lose 76 lbs - I was in the 290's when I got pg w/my son. Yes - there are more risks - but it can be done (esp. if weight is the only issue). It wouldn't hurt to seek a 2nd opinion - the worst that they can say is the same thing. (((HUGS)))
Ditto. I know many large women who have had successful pregnancies. I weighed about 230 when I got pregnant. By the end of my 1st trimester I was down to 200. I think no matter what your doctor said you should seek the opinion of another before making such a drastic decision, especially if you don't want to do it. I believe when I was looking into a gastric bypass that I read you had to wait over a year before having a baby after the operation (maybe it was longer, I'm not sure). That made me quit looking at it as an option because I wanted to keep trying to have a baby.
My Dr. said that he is more worried about my life right now and that my life won't be long if I don't take care of my weight first. After Iv'e had time to think tonight, I realized that he is right. When I have a baby, I'm going to want to be around for a long time, so, I will have the gastric bypass. It sucks that it will take a longer time for me to conceive, but that's ok, maybe it was meant to be that way. Mabe I need to feel more confident about myself and love myself more first. I'm just scared about the surgery. I think I'm going to research about it first, hopefully it will make me feel better and more confident about it. Thanks cysters!

According to WW website my BMI was 45.8 when I got pg - 292 & 5'7". I agree it would be *best* if you could lose weight first. It just doesn't have to be gastric bypass - especially if you're not comfortable with it. (And FTR I have nothing against the surgery).
Are you on Metformin or Glucophage? This can help some women to lose weight and ovulate. I also know many women have seen a change in their cycles by just losing 10 lbs - or sometimes 10% of their bodyweight.
If you're not comfortable with what this doctor has to say I really think you would benefit from a 2nd opinion. (((HUGS)))
Either way research into the surgery sounds like a good place to start. In the meantime you could always keep trying on your own. GL
YES, a second opinion, please! I have nothing against wls, heck, I am even looking to get the lap band done myself, but I also am 5'2" and weigh 340#. Some doctors are too quick to recommend surgery. You may be overweight, but I do not thikn that you are too far gone to do it on your own. But what you decide is up to you. Just make sure that yo uare comfortable with what your decision is. I weighed 278 lbs when I got preggo, and I had NO complications at all.

you have lost so much weight already! Please don't jump into such a huge decision so fast! give yourself a waiting period and then if you still fell it nesesarry then do it.
(((((hugs)))))

oh, hon. I would definitely get a second opinion. I weight 268 right now, and I am pregnant. For YEARS my endocrinologist told me that it would be impossible for me to get pregnant while I was 'so high risk'. I have multiple cysts, and about 1,000 other problems....which is why my husband and I never worried about birth control.
