I've been through a fair bit as usual, and have just stopped taking Cerazette POP (desogestrel 75mg) as it was becoming too unbearable. I have an IUD so I'm covered contraception-wise.
Saw a different GP who seemed to be really up to date and understanding, and I'm going back to him in a couple of weeks. It's not that I'm desperate to "take something" but I'm not sure whether or not I can manage my PCOS symptoms on my own, particularly as when I'm not taking hormones, my gynae goes on about suppressing my ovaries so cysts don't develop etc. I only had follicles a few years ago, and they were painful enough!
So, today I have been looking into combined pills, which my GP said I can use again "carefully", since I seem to have a migraine/headache problem, which developed on Marvelon (Desogen) and got worse.
Sorry, this is a long post....
Anyway, back in Sept 2006 I tried Yasmin and to begin with it seemed fine. I was heavier back then, and managed to lose weight but stopped taking it in March 2007 as I just didn't feel right, and my skin was bad, got cramps etc. Changed back to Marvelon and got the same though my skin calmed dow a little (and my mood was elevated and I felt better for a bit). I was far more emotional and moody on Marvelon than Yasmin.
My question is, do you think I should talk to my GP about trying Yasmin again? I know drospirenone is less androgenic than desogestrel, so maybe it will help. I'm confused. Also I'm moving away fro a few months with work so I want to be well. If I'm suffering with very heavy periods and just feeling weak then that won't be good, but I didn't get that with Yasmin.
Oooh just a note, I don't have any blood pressure problems, which is a blessing. My symptoms are:
acne
excess weight that's hard to shift
oily skin
maybe a bit too much hair but nothing awful
cramps and pains all month long
now only slightly irregular periods
Maybe Yasmin wouldn't be the best, perhaps I should try Mercilon (Mircette in US I think), since it's only 20mg of oestrogen so may be safer for me...?
I wish I'd tried it last year because maybe I would have had all the problems I got with Marvelon etc...
I couldn't sleep last night because everything was buzzing round in my head. I just need something to help me without making me worse. And something that will help me lose some weight (plus my effort of course) would be best. I basically don't trust my body!
Any thoughts on this? I feel so alone right now. I can't talk to my mum as she just doesn't get it as she never really used the pill etc and hasn't ever had gynae problems...
Right, I've decided that I'm going to beg my doctor for Yasmin. Already after my withdrawal bleed since Cerazette I am in pain, crampy and feeling like utter crap so I'll try and get a GP who may care and give me what I need. Was going to wait a couple of weeks but I think the sooner the better. My cycle is 5 weeks anyway so it shouldn't harm to start it now/soon. Just hope I can convince the doc!
I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow to beg to be put on Yasmin again. I'm losing sleep due to pain etc and during the day it's not better. Fed up now. And my skin is awful too. Hair gets greasy within a few hours, spots appear overnight, tummy is fat and bloated and I hurt!
I know nobody has replied on here for whatever reason, but I just needed to rant a little...
Hey girl...I can't believe nobody replied to you! Have you heard of Yaz? I have been on it for almost a month and I prefer Yasmin, but maybe since you aren't a huge fan of Yasmin, you could try Yaz? It only has 4 nonactive pills, so maybe that would be good for you??
I was put on LoEstrine 24 Fe, I personally did not like it, but my dr said it's a good one for PCOS women to try. I've now switched to Yaz...only on like week 3 so no real insight if I like it yet. I try to give BCP at least 6-8 weeks until I make a decision if I like it.
It's trial and error really. If Yasmin has worked for you in the past, go with that.

Hey thanks for the advice! I've been trying to make an appointment with a NICE doctor, but I'll have to try this afternoon...
Don't think Yaz is available in UK but I'm going to try Yasmin again, it's the only thing I can think of to help me....and I'll try and stick with it for longer this time. It's all so complicated, and I tend to get ill with PCOS at the wrong times i.e. when my doc os on holiday, I have important work, moving....grrrr!
I was made to feel concerned about oestrogen levels in the pills I try, as I was told that they were causing my problems, but since trying a POP with the same progestogen as the pill I was on, I reckon it is the progestogen desogestrel that is messing me up!!! It used to work like a dream but now I think my body is too used to it!
Saw Doctor and we looked through different pills but she agreed that Yasmin would be the best for me out of the ones available. I was so worried I was going to be turned away with some pill that reaked of androgens lol! So I just took my first Yasmin pill and I will see how it goes. Would like to stick with it as long as possible.
