Hello to all--I am new here and have not been diagnosed with PCOS. Unfortunately, I am still doing the "on my own" internet research. A bit of history....
In June 2003, I gave birth to my second child. I had a normal preganancy with really no problems to speak of....didn't feel really great, but that was pretty normal for me. 2 days before my due date, I went in to my doctor (fam. doc) and my bp was high--I think like 140/90. Pretty high for me as my normals were 110/60 or so. Anyway--she sent me to the hosp. to have the baby. It was a pretty uneventful birth--broke my water and 4 hours later I had the baby. He was a "lazy" breather, and had to be on oxygen for awhile. I do remember the Doc/Nurses saying that he looked premature by about a month (he was full term). Anyway......figured that my bp would go down, but it didn't.
I can remember having one of the worst nights of my life that 1st night in the hosp. I was so hot/sweaty I had to keep wetting rags to put on my neck. I could not sleep, and just kind of felt like I was vibrating on the inside....it was awful. I mentioned it to the nurses who told me that it was probably my blood sugar...they gave me some juice. My bp continued to be high throughout the night and through the next day.....left the hospital on Bp med called Lobetalol 100 mg, I think.
Came home and spent my 1st night feeling like total crap....same shakiness, high bp, etc. Went to dr. next day and she put me back into the hosp. with possible pp preeclampsia. Turned out not to be the right diagnosis--went back home the next day with the bp pills.
During the course of the next few months I kept taking the bp pills which were'nt really working....my bp would be really high for a couple of hours and then would go so low that I would feel dizzy. This is really where my quest began....my original doctor ran a lot of tests....complete blood panel, 24 hour urine...you name it. All fine. Told me that she would probably never find out what was wrong with me.....Next dr....same drill. Blood work--24 hour urine--EKG--all normal.. Go home, take this bp pill. Next Dr---maybe hypoglycemia--eat more often....Endocrinologist---don't have any more kids...and so on and so on and so on.....10 doctors in all and no answers. I stopped seeing dr's all together and took matters into my own hands. Managed to get the bp settled down, and have been med free for 3 years. Is normal most all of the time now except when I'm stressed, and I know that that is normall!! Finally went to a shrink, as I had myself convinced that I was suffering from some sort of anxiety/depression.....put me on AD, didn't do a whole lot, so I quit taking it.......and so it goes.
I found this site today just by chance and have been browsing a bit.....I am asking for all of your help in telling me if PCOS (of some type) is what I could be suffering from. Just from the few posts that I have read today, I have several of the symptoms.........
The bp in the beginning was a MAJOR issue....like I said, it has pretty much leveled out. I seem to have hair in places that I never did...not a lot, but I do have to tweaze. I have a few on my chin--a few around my navel and a lot around the aereola of my breast...sorry, gross, I know. I also have the hairy butt crack prob. that I have seen mentioned......even grosser. I am not overweight, but I do notice that I seem to "carry" some flab around my middle---never did before. I lose hair like a fiend....always have. I am not going bald, they seem to replenish themselves, but I still lose a lot! My periods are pretty normal....28-33 day cycles. The thing that I have noticed that has changed is the duration....maybe 3 days, tops. 1 heavy day and 2 nothing days.....I have a lot of anxiety/depression. (I think that the depression is from frustration!) and most days, I am snappy and irritable. All of these symptoms seem to worsen from the mid-month point, on.
I did have some hormone testing done....never testosterone. My estrogen was basically non-existant. I have absolutely no sex drive..........I also notice that I have back pain around ovulation time that I don't ever recall having prior to the baby. Oh--forgot to mention that I began taking BCP's when I was 18....Took them until I was 26--got preggers about 1 month later---started taking them again and quit for good in 2002. Took me 6 months to get pregnant that time. Have any of you ever heard of preganancy induced PCOS? Somebody please help....I am so frustrated and so tired of looking for answers............I did make an appt. w/ a doctor that I found a link to on this sight today. I will see her on 7/26.

I'm glad you found this site & took matters into your hands & made that appointment! I hope you find the answers you are seeking. I, myself, have never heard of pregnancy induced pcos but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Anything is possible with this!!!! Good luck & keep posting updates as to what you find out!
Thanks for your quick reply. I don't really know for sure that it was induced by the pregnancy.....just an idea that I was throwing out there! I think that I may have had problems before had I not taken the BCP's. I don't know for sure...what I do know is that the more posts that I read on this site, the more symptoms that I have!!!! Thank you for your insight....

BCP's can mask PCOS symptoms, so you could have had it all this time and just not noticed. My symptoms became much worse after pg. Hope you find some answers soon. Take care, and let us know how it turns out.
