Default Would I be considered a "thin cyster"?

I am 29 years old, 5'6" and 140 pounds. I used to be very slender until around age 25. (I mean - I could never give blood in highschool b/c I didn't even weigh 100 until after I graduated lol!) I feel "fat" these past few years and if I exercise hard I can get down to like 128 or so after a few months. I have been too depressed and lazy to exercise plus I take antidepressants which also make me put on weight. I don't know. So I don't know if the PCOS is causing the weight gain, or age, or the antidepressants or all 3. What do you think?

I think it is a combination of things.....

have you been tested for IR? Which antidepressant are you on?... a lot of the newer SSRIs (celexa, zoloft) do not cause weight gain. I wouldn't try to reach the goal or think it would be realistic to be 100llbs again b/c for 5'6" that is too thin. Depending on your frame and if you have muscle anywhere from 128-145llbs seems perfectly "normal" for your height. Getting moderate exercise would benefit your depression and your PCOS, try fast paced/brisk walking a couple times a week and see how that feels and then go from there. Are you on meds for PCOS?

I was tested for IR and it was normal. I take fluoxetine (generic Prozac). I have been out of my regular exercise routine for a few months [I was feeling sick (didn't know I was pg) and then I had a miscarriage]. I started back up again though. I don't take any meds for PCOS.

I am very sorry for your loss, it must have been very difficult.

Have you talked to your doctor about metformin? When I first went off bcp in summer of '05 I gradually put on 7-10llbs over a six-eight month period before I was dx with pcos even though my eating and exercise habits were the same. My obgyn started me on Met and I lost the weight that I had gained plus some extra. My blood work never showed IR either. Did you notice weight gain when you started the Prozac? I was on zoloft for many years and had to wean off b/c of my pregnancy, but never had any weight gain from it. I do know of some friends who said they felt they gained weight from either Prozac and/or zoloft. Did you ever talk to your doctor about the Prozac, is weight gain a side effect? I don't know enough about it to say.

I think it is very possible that your weight gain is a combo of slowed metabolism from age, stopping your regular exercise and your pcos. I would talk to your doctor and see what he/she would advise. I think it is great that you are getting back into exercising. Keep up the good work and best wishes.
