Hello ladies!recently i went to a gyno who gave me a prescription for met because she says it will help condition my body to conceive and maybe help with weight loss(would be nicebut I'm kinda afraid of taking it because of the possible side effects,(like lactic acidosis eek!)so i would greatly appreciate all your met stories the good, bad,or anything you gals have to say about it!thanks!
My Re Also Prescribed This Drug To Me Because Of My Pcos And She Started Me Out At 1500 Mg A Day! This Drug And Me Didn't Mix. It Always Made Me Feel So Run Down And Tired. I Never Lost Weight On This Drug Either! My Dr. Told Me It Would Help, But It Never Helped Me. It Only Made Me Feel Worse So I Stopped Taking It And Started Diet And Exercise On My Own And Now Im Down 22 Pounds!!!
i take metformin for my PCOS i have been on it since may the 1st week i started it i couldnt stop going to the toilet =/ then when i read the leaflet properly lol it said to take with food which then i did i never had no problem i have had no other side effects with it i also have lost some weight with it now i am just waiting for my BFP
I've been on met for a year and a half, and I haven't had any problems at all. I haven't seen any weight loss, but it has lowered my androgen level to about half of what it was, so that has helped my skin and hair growth some.
I have been taking it for 3.5 years now. It has never helped me have AF or lose weight but Before I got pg I read about taking it during pregnancy. During the 1st pg I stopped taking it then miscarried, but during the 2nd pg I stayed on the whole time & now have my dd. I just don't remember what Dose I dropped down to during the 2nd.
HI ya I have been on met for about a year have had the level increased over that time to 2000mg, it has been great with weight lose dropped 2 and 1/2 stone. I have felt better on it more energy, healthier!! But it isn't for everyone, i have seen some people react really badly so take it slow and only increase as advised or when you feel ready!!
Good luck!!!
I have been on Met since Feb 09 and worked my way up to 1500mg. I have managed to lose 32lbs since starting the Met, but I wont lie I still have to run to the bathroom sometimes. I have always even before Met had a sensative stomach and this just intensified it. I rely on Immodium quite a bit but its well worth it. I feel so much better with loosing this weight and hope to continue to drop weight. So even though the side effects are no good in the begining stick with it and get some immoduim..LOL As far as having my AF regular I was not too badly irregular so that has not affected me. GL !!

I started taking Met 500mg As of January 2009 and then moved up to 1000mg in February 2009... After doing that i started getting normal 28 to 30 periods and my face broke out less and I seemed to feel alot better.. Yes if you eat anything greasy, fatty, sugary, salty, or over eat you will be running to the bathroom but it's worth the side effects to me at least.. I lost maybe 10 lbs on Met nothing to major but some.. But without met I wouldn't be 9 weeks Pg but my dr did stop me taking Met as soon as I found out I was Pg.. All drs are different in what they believe is best so far my Pg is going well(knock on wood).. I would recommend you take it but again there are all different ways of dealing with PCOS you just have to figureout which ones for you..

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I just wanted to share my experience. Years ago I tried to conceive but was unsuccessful. I discussed it with my Ob/gyn who prescribed Clomid. After many tries and several negatives, I stopped. A year or so later, I started the Clomid and became pregnant. I now have a 5 year old daughter. I switched doctors and later found that I had PCOS. After years without medication and research on PCOS I decided it was time to encourage my doc to prescribe metformin. This was unsuccessful! I was later diagnosed with pre-diabetes and again changed doctors. The new doctor finally prescribed metformin at 500mg once a day for the first month(March) and x2 a day for the second month. Well with the experience of having irregular menstruals, I was unconcerned when it didn't appear in May. My husband convinced me to take a preg test which I was certain would turn out neg....surprise...it was positive! To make a long story short, I miscarried weeks later and had a DNC. I'm still waiting on my cycle to return and had my doctor to increase my met to 850mg x2 a day. I'm hoping to get pregnant soon and have read so many encouraging stories on this site. Wishing myself and all of you the best of luck.
Hi ladies! I have been on Met for almost a year. Initially, I didn't really take it religiously because I was so pessimistic about the results. But ever since I have been taking it, I feel that it has somehow helped me with my cravings. When I skip a dose, I tend to think about food all the time. (Weird!). There are times that I have GI symptoms, but rarely I feel okay with it. I guess it has to do with taking it after meals. My doc says she may increase the dose to 2000 mg from 1500 mg per day... I am afraid to feel the side effects on my GI... But I want to be treated, so I guess I have to follow Hope all will work out with your treatment!
Have never really had a period naturally, spent most of the last 15yrs on BCP. Came off BCP to TTC in Sept 07. As I still hadnt had a period 18mths later, I was prescribed met 1500mg in Jan 09. Since then I've had AF every 35-45 days!! I am however not ovulating at the moment so the dose has been increased this week to 2000mg.
I also needed support with the weightloss and initially it did help me lose more when I was on strict low GI diet. However in recent months my diet has been more 'relaxed' and I haven't lost anymore. I do think that I haven't reghained as much as I would have done had I not been on metformin.
Go for it and give met a try - it could be just what you need to help you.
I have been on met 500mg twice daily. I have been taking it for three weeks. The first two weeks I had some stomach issues but nothing that bothered me too much. Now I feel tired a lot of the time and sleep like a rock. I have not really felt anything positive or negative from it. I would love to lose weight have thicker hair and less acne. Here's to still hoping.
kpotter- Were you on any other meds to get your BFP with twins ?? Congrats !!
