Default Would love some advice

Hi lovely cysters,

I would love your advice on where to seek help when GP's don't take you seriously.

I have been to my GP recently as my pcos symptoms (hirsuitism, acne, hairloss) has worsened of late. My testosterone and androgen levels are within normal ranges, I don't have insulin resistance, and all other results for adrenal, cortisol etc etc is fine. Yet my hair is all over my house , the hirsuitism is severe and I have acne (I'm over 30!) etc etc

I specifically went to my GP for a dermatologist refferal for help to address these 'cosmetic' issues as they are causing me distress but my GP doesn't see these pcos symptoms as being much of a problem, advising me to seek help for my low confidence instead!! She then told me a story about another patient with a beard...telling me not too worry about it as I'm not as bad as this other patient. This story was of little consolation to me and I felt rather insulted by her comments and brush off! Later that night I burst into tears from frustration...it's really frustrating when a GP won't listen to you, and you don't know how or where to get the help you need.

I called the Australian dermatologists Association to inquire if there was such a thing as a dermatologist that specialises in treating patients with hormonal imbalances, but they don't give out that information to the public.

Would anyone know of a good dermatologist in Brisbane? Or where to go for help with hirsutism, acne and hairloss?

Would love to hear advice from others who might be in the same boat.

Kate.

Hi Kate

There are a lot of Brissie cysters on this board. I know how hard it is not to be taken seriously. After 10 years I have just found a GP that will take me seriously - I was beginning to feel like a real idiot - maybe I had imagined it all.
Anyway, my GP explained that it is the collection of symptoms that she looks at the most. She said that blood tests can vary for lots of difference reasons and they are not always an accurate reflection.
I'm sure one of the Brissie cysters can help you - maybe an endo would be better? That way treating the PCOS hormonal inbalence that causes all those symptoms?

((Hugs)) and Good luck!

Brooke

hey good luck with it, I have had similar problems with my skin but I'm younger and my doc was prepared to do something about it. Sorry I can't help!

Default Hi Kate

I dont know if you want to go to an endocrinologist but if you do Dr Winnifred Lee is really good and would be able to help. Her phone number is 38311733.
