Exclamation would you recommed waxing??

I am 27 and have been shaving my top lip in secret since i was seven years old. (borrowing my brothers razor from the cabinet)
The hair is getting more noticable on my top lip and now under my chin, i find the under chin hair is more noticable because my skin tone is so very pale.
What i am really asking is would anyone recommend waxing i bought a small box of waxing strips to try at home.
Because what ever i find work has to be something i can do at home because i hate hairdresses and salons.
So if anyone has any suggustions PLEASE let me know as i am going away next Tuesday.
Thanks

I use magic cream (found at Target or walmart) once a week and its super quick & easy to get rid of hair.

Waing works well, but you have to let your hair grow out a bit so the wax can grab onto it. Also if you have sensitive skin it will cause redness and and you might break out. I had that happen once. So I stopped waxing my face.

I heard that the Magic Cream works well, but my Walmart doesn't carry it. So I'm stuck with shaving.

Thanks for your replies ladys, i will have a look to because i "think" i've seen that magic cream in Boots over here.
That is what i am sort of worride about with waxing is a bad breakout because we going away, so i think i'll have a look to see if i can get the cream, and try the waxing maybe when i come home.
Thanks again.

I usually get my upper lip waxed when I get my eyebrows done. I had a lot of redness the first time I did it, but that diminished with every session and now it doesn't bother my skin at all. However, I will be trying the Magic Powder next time because it worked wonders on my bikini area and it's WAY cheaper than waxing. And since it's meant for the face and didn't irritate my sensitive areas, I'm assuming it'll be fine for the upper lip!

Default Me, too!

I have this same problem, too. My lip and under my chin. Battling the chin hair has been a constant struggle. And I also have acne and ingrown hairs, so anything I do to get rid of the hair tends to flare up these problems. If your skin is not really sensitive, you could get an epillator (sp?), for your chin. It actually pulls the hair out. It doesn't even hurt when I use it on my chin, but using it on my lip is excruciating, so I guess I'm stuck with waxing for that. Anyway, the best one I've found is made by Emjoi Tweezee, but you have to get the large one, which runs around $99, not the small one, because it would take you forever to do your chin. Has anyone tried Vaniqa to slow the hair growth? If this works, it would be wonderful for me, since my skin gets so irritated any time I try to do anything about the hair.

alright, not gonna lie, I work at a salon, so my opinion may be biased...

I get my chin, sideburns, upper lip, neck.. all that area.. waxed! and WOW! The first time i did it, it HURT! But... there are some awesome numbing agents that the stylists can use.. it helps to plan around when you're having a period.. and taking a couple asprin beforehand. Also.. the wax that you pull off with the paper strips? That stuff sucks... call around and find a salon where they literally just pull off the wax... it's a newer wax and it not only works better but it's SO much easier. (the wax hardens and looks like laffy taffy) Also.. when you go get it done explain the whole PCOS thing in brief terms.. most salons will be willing to work with/help you get the hair growth under control.

apparently waxing can sometimes actually stimulate more hair growth if your hormone levels are out of whack (which of course ours are! unless you are on an anti-androgen.) this doesn't always happen so if waxing works for you, then obviously you won't have this problem. but i would be careful when you first start waxing-- maybe do a small area and monitor it for regrowth to see if the hair is any different, then do this a few times in a row to get a good idea before moving on to waxing the whole face. the thing is that waxing, tweezing, epilating, etc cause hormone-rich blood to rush to the area, which can stimulate growth. and you are pulling out your fine vellous hairs along with the terminal ones, so they could actually begin to become terminal. waxing is also known to strengthen hair even in non PCOS women. so i would be careful... but if you wax already and don't have these problems... then it's fine to keep doing it!

I waxed my jaw/lower cheek area and when it grew back after that wax, it was darker. I waxed very light blonde hairs!! Never will I wax fine hair again!
