Default XR Met for thin cysters

This is my first post. I've learned so much from reading these and appreciate knowing I'm not the only one.

Have any other thin cysters been put on Metformin XR? If so, how long until you saw results or got a BFP?

Hey Cleo, I've been on Met XR 750mg since June. I saw results in my skin within the month and my skin is drastically less oily. And my little pooch has shrunken a bit in the last month and I've lost 7lbs without trying (I'm not big, but not skinny...normal size). As for the BFP, I'm waiting. I had a lap/hysteroscopy last month...so technically this is the first month we've been able to try. I'm afraid to take a test, but AF should be here this weekend, so I'm trying to hold out and let nature take its course one way or the other.

Are you on it?

I wasn't on the XR but the regular Metformin. I took it along w/femera and IUI and got pg the 3rd cycle. THe metformin also helped my OV. I used to OV on CD 21-23 even with the fertility drugs. The 3rd cycle on metformin (the cycle i got pg) I OV'd on CD 13...

Aimers,

Did you try clomid before you went on Femera or did you just skip straight to the Femera? I just finished my second cycle of clomid and it was a bust so I'm trying to figure out if I should go with 150 of clomid or just skip to Femera.

I started Met XR last night. Doctor didn't want to give it to me. I've done one round of Clomid 50 Mg but was not monitored and I'm preety sure I didn't O. I decided to go to a RE to continue the process. He said they always start with clomid only. I said I really wanted Met as well and he said ok. I've read a lot about thin cysters who were not successful on clomid alone having success on the combination. But many were on regular Met I think. IKll
I'll be starting my next clomid cycle on day 5 after I get AF. Good luck on your upcoming test. What is lap?

Cleo, are you sure you have PCOS? I assume you do since you're on here. I'm curious as to why your dr didn't want to put you on it.

Right now, I'm hoping Met does the trick for me! 4 rounds of clomid and 2 rounds of femara, some with injectables and none of them worked. Pretty sure I ovulated on most of them because I produce enough progesterone for several women. (I'm still trying to find a way to sell it to pay for fertility treatments! lol!) So my RE is pretty sure its an egg quality issue due to PCOS. He's gonna put me on Femara next cycle if this one doesn't work. I'm assuming because of the ill effects of clomid to lining and cm.

And the lap = laparoscopy. Tons of stuff on the 'net about it. Its an out-patient surgery where they go in through your belly button to have a look at your female parts to make sure everything looks okay. Ultrasounds really don't show things in a definitive matter. Never in a million years did I think I'd get to see pictures of my ovaries and uterus! My RE likes to do it before moving to IVF to rule out physical problems that make it fail. But he just discovered a little endo and i def have PCOS, so he did the ovarian drilling. Anyway, he sounded confident that IVF probably isn't necessary for me! woo hoo! I hope so, clomid and injectables are bad enough.

Anyway, let me know how XR works for you, doesn't seem to be a lot of us out there on it.

C -- still avoiding the POAS = )

Cleo19- I am a thin cyster and I am taking Metformin 1500mg XR daily. I started taking 750mg XR in jan and got AF in 16 days after starting it. Periods have been anywhere from 36-44 days, but after a long stretch of 60 days, my MD switched me to 1500mg XR daily. When I started metformin I lost 10lbs in a month due to the GI side effects.

Sharky, I was diagnosed with PCOS becuase of high testosterone and no periods. After getting off bcp they stopped and I didnt get them for 60 to 70 days until the ob gave me prometrium. We did this twice and then I tried clomid.

I recently decided to switch to an RE so as not to waste time taking clomid unmonitored and not know whether or not I was getting results.

The doctor didnt want to give me met because he said he gives either clomid or met but not both. I called back after my appointment and said I really want both and he agreed.

My husband really wants us to try to conceive naturally if we can so I'm going to try Met for a few months and see if it helps bring back AF without clomid. Which brings me to another question for Dawn...if you got back AF, why do you need Femara or more clomid?

Sharky, did lap hurt?

Also, I've been on Met for only 3 days, but so far, I feel nothing. No GI problems at all. Maybe because I am still only on 500 mg (going to work my way up to 1500 mg). Did you guys experience the same thing? No problems at lower dose and maybe more problems initially at the higher doses?

Another question for anyone that might know...I know we're not supposed to drink on Met. I had less than a shot of sake tonight at dinner out with friends (didnt want them asking questions about why I wasnt drinking). I started to get kind of panicky and tingling in my hands so I drank a lot of water and got some air and it went away. Was it possibly just in my head? Doesnt seem like such a small amount of alcohol should have done anything, right?

Hey Cleo,

I wouldn't say the lap hurt, but it is surgery. I was out of work for about 5 days, 2 of which were a Sat & Sun. My belly button was sore for days, but other than that it wasn't bad at all. I didn't even have the shoulder pains most women complain about from the gas they use to blow up your abdomin to see your organs. Anyway, my Dr said he'd use me as a reference! lol! He has such a weird sense of humor!
Hopefully you won't have to do it. My mom and her sisters all had issues with endo, so that was part of the reason for doing it....I'm lucky so far and don't have much.

I immediately started on 750mg of met and had no problems. I had some issues with hypoglycemia about a month or so in, but that's when I really started changing my diet and it has helped a lot. Haven't had an episode since. I think the XR is supposed to be easier on your system than regular met....since its extended release. It's dissolved more slowly in your stomach so you don't have that rush of medicine on your system.

I've continued drinking on Met...gosh that makes me sound like a lush! lol!...i guess I should say I occasionally have a glass or wine or two with dinner. Had a few more the other night when we were out with friends and didn't notice a difference. But if I'm drinking I always wait a couple hours before taking my met. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. I'm probably ruining the effectiveness....oh well. lol!

momtoovals, femara and clomid are both drugs that help induce ovulation in women. Work a little differently in women, sometimes one will work for you and sometimes one won't.

Gosh aren't I a wealth of information this morning! Hope I got all that right! lol!

I did do clomid but my RE was monitoring my cycle and the clomid was thinning out my lining which can prevent implantation. I really liked the femera.

For those on MET XR, do you take all the pills at once, at nght, or scattered throughout the day?

Sharky...good luck. It sounds like the odds are def. in your favor now with all that you've done.
