I had been on 1500mg Glucophage since 1998 for my PCOS. I was having pretty good luck with it, too. (as far as I know... I wasn't ttc or temping so I don't know if I was O'ing or not). WELL! To save money this January I got switced to generic Met. That was when I noticed some side effects BUT I blamed it on taking as many pills as I was supposed to. Before I was taking 500 to 1000mg per day because we didn't have insurance and couldn't afford the 100 bucks a month... so I would short myself to get two months or more out of one bottle.
WELL! My husband and I got insurance this march but I kept taking the Met. I continued having strong side effects and I noticed that I was getting a bit 'hairy' again. In June we started ttc. My af started coming later and later. 40 days, 52 days etc...
My last cycle started on August 17. This cycle I decided to take my bbt. I showed a basic annovulatory pattern. On CD 51 I called my doctor and asked him if he would put me on Gluc. XR. He basically told me I was stupid because it was the same as generic but decided to humor me. I started taking the XR on the same day that I began taking 400mg Vitex in the morning and 400 at night.
That was CD 52.
On CD 59 I O'd.
On CD 72 af showed up.
Eight days after I switched I o'd. My side effects (nausea, bathroom problems) are gone. I am still hairy but lets just give it a few months.
What do you think? Glucophage XR or Vitex?
