Default Yasmin causing shrinking waist?

So I was diagnosed in Feb and was prescribed yasmin and metformin. i quit the metformin after a week because it made me puke. but ive been taking yasmin for 3 months now.

so in the past 3 months even though my weight hasnt changed a lot (maybe ive lost like 5 lbs), my waist is shrinking! Ive lost about 4 inches around my tummy!) Im not losing inches anywhere else on my body except my waist. I'm theorizing that this is because of the estrogen?

anyone have a similar experience or a possible explanation? this is awesome btw....

Default Not really...

I have been on Yaz for about 2 years and I haven't experienced anything like you described. However, everyone reacts differently to medications.

Yasmin has a diuretic (water pill) so the inches that you have lost could be due to the fact that it is preventing you from being bloated.

YAZ and Yasmin are two different BCPs. Are you taking Yasmin 28? When I was on Yasmin, my waist shrunk too, but had to go off it because it made me feel like I was having morning sickness...that and I couldn't even drink 1 beer while on it, lol. I'm on YAZ now (along with Metformin and Spiro), and I don't have the shrinking stomach, but my acne is in control. The only difference between the two is the estradiol in yaz is lower than in yasmin, but it is not the estradiol that causes most problems, it is the type of progesterone called drosperinone.

Both of these are supposed to really help with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)...when you have REALLY BAD PMS!!

Hope I was able to help.

I just posted elsewhere that I took myself off Yasmin a few months ago because the only plus to having PCOS was hardly ever getting my period.. But I think I might give it another try!

I have lost 20 pounds since I started bcp 8 months ago. I started off with Ovcon 35, then switched to Yasmin just 2 months ago.

In my case, I had finally decided to try bcp when I could no longer control my PCOS symptoms with metformin alone. In addition to the standard symptoms of PCOS and hyperandrogenism--scalp hair loss, facial hair growth, acne, etc.--I had a lot of unwarranted anxiety and insomnia. I felt like I could no longer cope with stress of any type. I think this constant stress and anxiety contributed to a 20 pound weight gain, much of which was around my midsection.

After only a few months of being on bcp, the most significant improvement I noticed was in my anxiety level. I was able to sleep through the night again; and, overall, I felt much more calm and more able to cope with stress. I am certain that the stress reduction alone has helped me lose some weight, especially around my belly. The other part of it: a smaller appetite since starting bcp; an estrogen boost, which I know I needed; lower free testosterone; and, now, the diuretic used in the progestin of Yasmin.

I hope Yasmin gets rid of my spare tire!
I wouldn't question it if I were you and just except the wonderful side affect.

I just wanted to add I am also on Yasmin and am loving the lack of flab now! I have made an effort too, but I've found it far easier than normal (on or off bcp). I think since Oct I've lost 20lb, which isn't too bad. I am now using this (and my recent diagnosis of endometriosis) to inspire me to diet for the summer so I can be really healthy and hopefully help my symptoms. I find that replacing meat with pulses and veg has helped me.

My boobs have shrunk, but I am quite glad as my back doesn't hurt as much and I can wear nicer bras! Hehe!

xx
