I had my yearly last week and asked my Gyno and he said that he hasn't heard anything yet that Yasmin is going generic but if it does--he will let me know...but then he also said that Yasmin for 3 months is cheaper then 3 months for other brands but dont know if that is true or not.

Yes, Yasmin is definitely going generic. I heard it from the horses mouth b/c I work in a gyn office and the rep told me himself. Don't know when it will be available though, but probably not too long from now.
My Google search came up with a few hits for press releases dated 2005, yes, I said 2005, that stated that a generic form had been applied for with the FDA. It must be a bunch of men holding up that deal! LOL We need our generics, please ... NOW!
I'm a Certified Pharmacy Technician. I haven't seen the Yasmin generic out yet, but I bet its coming soon. It seems like every time a drug is going to a generic, the company that makes it puts out a new drug that is very similar.I think its because they know they'll lose money when everyone switches over to the generic. For example, Ambien is now available in generic. A little while before this happened the drug company came out with Ambien CR, a controlled release version of Ambien. Recently, Berlex, the company that makes Yasmin came out with Yaz, which is very similar. So, I bet it won't be long before we see a generic for Yasmin.

DD is a Pharmacy Tech also and hasn't heard of a specific date. I went to a new GYN today who said the drug rep was in recently and didn't have a definitive answer because evidently the company that makes Yasmin is either being bought or is merging with another drug company. I'm sure this will cause a delay.
