Default Yasmin...help with hair loss?

I am supposed to start Yasmin this month. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who is taking it and has had decrease in shedding after using this BCP.

Or have you had any negative side effects? I have not tolerated bcp's well in the past and am a little nervous, but am desperate to stop this massive Shed.

Thanks for your help!!!!

Jenny

When I took Yasmin, it did great things as far as helping control my PCOS symptoms. My hair got thicker and went back to having natural curl. When my symptoms were out of control, my hair got thin and straight, which had never happened before. My weight went down, my moods were better, my periods got normal, and the excess facial hair went away.

However, I don't respond well to bcps either, but it's always been that they don't work for me. Yasmin worked wonders on my PCOS symptoms, but about a month after starting it, my eyes got dry (I had to give up wearing contacts) and my vision was all over the map (my doctor could not get my prescription correct), but worst of all I developed vericose veins all over one of my legs. This happened over about a 6 month time period. Needless to say, I stopped taking it and am currently not taking any meds, but am trying estroven. So far, I've had pretty decent results with that.

You didn't mention what kind of problems you had with other pills in the past, but you really won't know what will happen with you until you take them. If you are concerned, maybe you could have your doctor monitor you closely for a few months to make sure everything is okay. I hope you find something that is helpful to you.

Hi Shannon,
Thanks for your reply. I was on vac. so havn't checked in recently.

Well, the problems that i've had with bcp are headaches, moody and just feeling crappy. nothing extreme. Are you sure the varicose veins are from the yasmin? my mom had v.veins really bad, so I am just waiting for mine to pop out! Hope not.

My dr. is going to see me every 3 months to monitor bp and other symptoms that may occur while on yasmin.

I am desperate for my hair to stop shedding and start growing again, I will try anything. It would be a plus if my facial hair lessened too, however that is easily controlable for me...loosing hair on my head is not controlable!!

It sounds like you had success with your hair. How is it now that your off yasmin. how is the estroven therapy going?

Thanks again.
Jenny

Hi there,

i am new here but am also on Yasmin (for about 4 months). Before that I was on Diane (Dianette), which I found did little for me. I remember being so bad with migraine I was passing out then vomitting. I literally thought of decapitating myself!

My new GP recommended the change to Yasmin and although I get continuous bad headaches throughout my period it's nowhere near as bad as Diane.

I have hirsutism on my lower jaw and although the hair has not gone away, it is slower to grow back. I have also noticed that after shving my legs the hair takes a week to grow back where as it used to take a few days.

I would recommend Yasmin. It is worth taking the risk and giving it a few months!

I have been on Yasmin for a month njow, i had been on metformin but after my baby ( december 03) i was not ready for another child so my doc suggested this instead of metformin to control the pcos and prevent another pregnancy. I am hoping it helps to control the facial hair that has been my huge problem. I have had less shedding this past month and am hoping that continues. So far Yasmin gets a thumbs up for me. Hoep it all works out for you

Good stuff to hear - im on week 3 of yasmin and my endo didnt think Glucophage would help, as my insulin / gluc. tolerance tests all came back good.

Im noticing some adjustment after starting it - anyone else have any symptoms the first month? I too have the hair loss - thats the worst of the symptoms for me, so im hoping yasmin will help!

I was on Yasmin for about 4 months. The biggest side effect for me was spotting. It didn't do anything for my hair loss in that time, although other BCPs have helped with that in the past. I never seem to notice when I am on them, but then when I go off I have a ton of shedding, similar to the shedding you get after giving birth but not *quite* as awful.
