I returned from my post-op exam with my dr a little while ago. During the visit she prescribed Yasmin for 4 months. Dr said she would like "things to settle down" with my ovaries. She also would like me to renew a normal cycle while I am starting an exercise routine.
In the past, I have had a very hard time taking any BCP. I have horrible mood swings when taking the BCPs. When I am not on them, I can contol my moods pretty well.
What effects has anyone felt or experience have they had with Yasmin?

Hi! I was on yasmin for over 6 years (I am now almost 23). I tried switching off of yasmin due to the high cost with no insurance and switched to a generic version of lo estrin 24. two months into that I got depressed and completely out of character. I immediately switched back to Yasmin and all things were back to normal. I loved yasmin during my time on it. I am currently off of yasmin for a couple of months until I can get better insurance. I have noticed slight weight gain, but other than that since I have been off of it I have been fine.
Not sure if this helped you in any way. But, I definitely recommend Yasmin! I lost some weight, had regular periods, and no real mood swings while on it.
I had SERIOUS mood swings IMMEDIATELY when I was on Yasmin. I was also depressed and had suicidal thoughts while on it, which is so unlike me. I returned to my normal self after I quit taking it. I will never take BCP again.
Everyone is different and everyone reacts differently to meds. Good luck!

My 2 cents: I love Yasmin. I have been taking Yasmin since January of 2007 and I have had no side effects, other than a little naseau at the very beginning. Yasmin helped clear up problems that I didn't realize I had, until I didn't have them anymore. When I started taking Yasmin, I was also taking Paxil. I don't know if this helped with the mood swings or not, but I am no longer taking the Paxil and I still do't have mood swings.

Im taking Yasmin! I love it, my Endo switched me from Diane 35 to it because I have tachycardia and it is a lower risk for blod clots. Im in canada and Yasmin is Cheaper than most BCP here, so I was happy in that respect as well, I wonder why it so much where you are, Thats not right.
I was irritable and moody at first but it went away. It made me really emotional too. But I stuck with it because I was hoping for good results and it all went away. I really like Yasmin now. Everyone is different though so you'll just have to try it and see.
I have been on Yasmin a few years and it had done wonders for my skin. I had rally bad acne before getting on it and now I rarely have a breakout. I have really bad cramps during my periods so my doctor suggested that Itake it for two cycles straight and then allow one week off during which I will have my period. This has reall y helped with the cramping. I also feel that it helps with hirsutism. I have very little of that going on. Maybe a strand or two on my lower chin. I have to say it has not done much for my hairloss. It makes me a little moody but only during my period. One bit plus... I had an ultrasound a few months ago and my left ovary has completely cleared up of cysts. The right ovary does not have as many on it and I believe it to be because of the Yasmin. Before Yasmin I had a lot of cysts on my ovaries.

I really like Yasmin. I've been on it since January '08 (I switched to it from Ortho Tri Cyclen). My face has cleared up, my excess body hair has decreased, my mood swings are less bothersome, and I retain less water during my period.
I do notice a little vaginal dryness with it, but nothing serious enough to warrant attention.
It IS $62.00/mo for me w/o insurance. I think it's well worth it considering it's one of the only meds I take and that it really improved some of my symptoms.

At least the cost will be low enough for the 3 months I am going to take it. It will cost me $120 EC which is $44.64 US.
I don't have heavy acne, or much extra hair. I have extra weight though.
Thanks for everyone's help.

was on Yasmin for about 2.5 years and it helped with my PCOS symptoms...brought on clear skin, fuller hair, regular cycle, weight loss...though one small problem (big)...higher BP than normal and my left leg began to swell after 2 years of using it and I developed a quarter sized lump inside my lower leg above the ankle bone along the tendon/muscle. Whenever I pressed on it, it felt like "pins and needles"....went to the Dr and he said it was a varicosity, but didn't say it was from Yasmin same with my higher BP. I have since then stopped as of last year and my varicosity is still there, swelling gone down a lot...and my bp went down a bit too, but still a bit high. And yes I am overweight. Has anyone else heard of or had this happen? Btw...I am 23 years old, and a non smoker. Can anyone give me some feedback, I made my own thread but no replies at all.
Did any of you on Yasmin noticed that when you first started taking it you had an initial breakout? That happened to me but Im wondering now if that was because I started it mid cycle.

I don't know about this. I have been taking Yasmin for about a year and a half without any problems. Did your doctor say anything about your high BP? Did he recommend that you go off the Yasmin? I would ask him specifically about this. If he doesn't tell you anything, or seems unsure, I would find a new doctor. Good luck!

I never noticed any breakouts when I first started Yasmin. I also never realized how bad my acne was until it cleared up. I never had a normal cycle before I started my BCP so my dr. told me to start it on the next Sunday.

I have been given a prescription for Levlen ED, Trifeme and Yasmin-( which i have been taking for 7 days now ). I was just wondering if anybody has been on Trifeme and if so were you happy with it ?? My friend was on it for a couple of months and she said it was horrible due to making her vomit in the morning's ( no she was not pregnant, was just the pill.) But I guess everyone is different and not every pill is going to suit. I'm just very worried and want to find the right pill for myself. Am going to give Yasmin a try for a couple of months - have had a few side effects- I began Yasmin on the first day of my period 13/06/08 it is now 19/06/08 and I seem to have still have some spotting or something, it isn't blood but is browny in color(TMI I know ! ) it isn't heavy but is quite annoying. Did I do the right thing in beginning Yasmin on the first day of my period ?? When can I expect my next period ? This is my first BCP and i'm pretty confused. Not sure if i am just being paranoid but I have noticed some things I have not felt before I started taking Yasmin. Anyway, I have heard alot of bad things about Yasmin and not too many good things but am not going to judge it until I have tried it for a reasonable amount of time. I hope it works out for me as it is very expensive! But I will try Levlen next if not successful with Yasmin. I work in a pharmacy and Levlen seems to be pretty popular - but I guess again this is where you just have to try different pills to find the one that is right for you - Even though I am new to this site -- If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
