Default Yasmin and migraines

Any sufferers of migraines out there who are/were on yasmin? Did it make the migraines worse and more frequent for you? Is that just a BCP thing in general?

I've stopped yasmin, I was on it for 3 months. I had at LEAST 1-2 migrains a week plus a headache every day in between while in the latter half of the 2nd cycle and all of the 3rd. Anyone else or was it just me?

Thumbs up

Hey Trish.. I am a former constant migraine sufferer!! I got them when on my BCP's A LOT!!!! It was more than likely due to the hormones in them my Doctor thinks. I started on Topamax which has been found to be a great anaphylactic for migraines but do keep my Imitrex handy in case I do get one because it works a lot better than any of the other medications my doctors had prescribed me prior to the Topamax. I have been on Yasmin now about two months and in conjunction with the Topamax have been pretty much migraine free! The only time I end up with a Migraine is right when I am due to get AF. Which is infrequent at the moment but it is my best sign to getting it and it only lasts a day instead of the 3 days to a week! I would end up in the ER for an IV and meds because I could not move or get out of bed... I had to have total dark, silence and sleep to try and get rid of it.

My best advice is to talk to your Health Care provider about the problems you have been having and see if maybe a Lo-Dose BCP might work better for you. I did have some success with one but better success with the Nuva Ring. And now the Topamax and the Yasmin are perfect for me. Hopefully your provider can find the right combination for you after some trials and tests to see what you find works better. But for all of you chronic Migraine sufferers I highly highly recommend looking into TOPAMAX with your provider as a great migraine prevention.

Good Luck and God Bless!

I found the Yasmin mad emy migraines worse and my acne worse. I do the nerve injections at the base of my skull and in my neck fro my migraines now. These injections work for me for about 3 months and let my migraine meds work. The neuro told me that when you get a migrane that won't quit, it's the nerves firing and the injections stop the pain cycle. Btw I couldn't take topamax but knwo people it works great for.

After not having any migraines in years, I had 2 of them my first month on Yasmin. I wasn't sure if it was caused my the Yasmin or not so I went off for a month and started taking it again. I've been back on it for 2 cycles now and haven't had a migraine again since that first cycle. I had been on a lower dosage pill before Yasmin, so maybe I got the migraines that first cycle because my body was adjusting to the new hormone dosage.

If you find that oral Migraine Meds don't work they do Botox for migraines now! Just think a quick little eye lift and being Migraine free for several months!

Yasmin made my migraines horrible. at least one a week and then the week off them, like five. My doctor told me I could just stop taking the week off and keep taking them straight through but I still was getting at least one a week. I have been off them since December and I have had less than 6 migraines in that time. I was talking to my friend about this weekend and she was off Yasmin for a month and didn't get any migraines either.

I notice myself suffering headaches more often now that I am on Yasmin, but I wouldn't classify them as migranes. But I do notice having headaches that are annoying, not so painful that I can't stand it, but just annoying enough to ruin my day, lol. This has been the case since starting on Yasmin.
