Question Yasmin= migraines, now what?

I started Yasmin a little over 2 years ago, right after my DD was born. For the first year, it was FANTASTIC. Acne, hirsutism, all gone.... with no side effects at first. I had tried several BCPs pre-diagnosis and they all made me sick or bleed nonstop. This was the first one that treated my symptoms with little to no side effects. After about a year, I started getting migraines (with no prior migraine history). At first they were only every couple months, but increased to once every other week or more, so I had to stop. I stopped June 29th when a migraine almost stopped me from getting on a plane home from ALASKA and have had not even a mild headache since.

I have been without PCOS treatment since, and it's definitely showing. I am broken out with acne all over my face, chest, back. My hirsutism is back. I'm desparate to get these symptoms under control but I'm stuck. My research tells me that the migraines were likely triggered by high estrogen but high estrogen is what controls my symptoms...I love my doc but he is clueless on this and takes his cues from my own research. I have an appt Thurs and need to tell him what I would like to try.

Only you cysters can help! What do you scientific-minded cysters think is my best bet? I need something reaalllly close to Yasmin but without the migraines. Yaz or one of the orthos? Is Ocella different enough to make a different?

HEELPPPP (please)!!!

I was on yasmin this month for IVF prep and have been on it in the past and it has always givin me the migraine to but it only last for the first week while my body adjust to the high estrogeon. How long have you been taking it? Mine cleared up now with the acne I didnt have issues until I started the stinking BCP go figure.

Hey, you are right to be considering Yaz, because it is lower in oestrogen and so should be better for any headache/migraine issues, but not quite as good at keeping acne at bay. However, I know the pain that migraines cause so I'd give Yaz a try if Yasmin works well for you in other areas. There's also Mircette which is similar to Desogen but has lower oestrogen and I think a shorter pill-free break so can help those who get mentrually-related migraines in particular.

I suffered with migraines on Desogen (Marvelon in UK) after a few months, although I think there were a few other factors at play (stress, depression, lack of sleep).

Now I'm on Yasmin and even though it has the same amount of oestrogen as Desogen, it hasn't affected me at all, in fact for the first time in months, I had a week of NO PAIN!!! Cramping etc really gets me down!

Hope you can talk things through with your doctor. Try Yaz or Mircette I think xx
