Default Yasmin Side Effects

I was diagnosed w/PCOS about 3 years ago, and have been on Yasmine for the past two years. My health has been crazy every since. Though I was happy it controlled my erratic, heavy periods, the side effects, which I've only recently added up have been horrible.

First of all, and most disturbing has been recurring yeast infections, at least one a month! Before I went on Yasmin, I had a yeast infection every couple of years at most. My husband and I were starting to think I was allergic to him or something, because it seemed like coincidentally I was getting it from sex.

Then, the whole issue of sex drive. In the past couple years I've gone from a pretty aggressive person in sex to barely able to want it at all...which is very hard on my husband. I thought something was wrong with me.

I also had horrible recurring leg cramps in the night, at least 4 nights a week.

I tried to treat the yeast infections by editing my diet, and taking herbal suppositories (which are terrible to deal with). Something in my mind kept me from thinking it was the BCP, because I didn't want to lose the control over my period again.

Then I googled Yasmine side effects and boy did I find what I needed to know. My side effects were quite common. I hadn't ever read the side effects on the boards here, but I also never thought to search for it. I also learned on the site I found that Yasmin can also act as a dieurretic...can you imagine how my side effects w/metformin were compounded!?

I took myself off the pills, and I guess if my period goes crazy again, I'll just have to get my doctor to treat w/provera or some other hormone. I was also diagnosed w/Hypothyroidism last year, and have been on synthroid since. It has helped my energy levels incredibly.

In case I have to go back on the pill, have any of you had similar side effects on Yasmin and found an alternative pill that does not have the same problems?

Thanks,
Mary K.

I have taken myself off Yasmin as well. I developed chronic hives and the one thing that gave me relief was cutting out the bcp so I know that it has something to do with it. In my case, I suffered from chronic yeast infections prior to starting Yasmin. Once I started the pill, my yeast infections stopped. Yasmin KILLED my sex drive..I mean completley...and caused alot of vaginal dryness (sorry if tmi!) I was sick to my stomach and suffered severe headaches. I'm glad to be off but like you, I'm scared about having wacky periods..Finally, after two months I had a period last week so I am a little relieved. But I know they will be far from regular..good luck!

Default thanks

Sorry took me so long to reply. Thanks for your response. I stopped Yasmine about 2 weeks ago, but I"m still having yeast issues. I'm hoping once it's completely out of my system things will improve.
