Question Yasmin & Spiro can't mix?

I was wondering if anyone is taking Yasmin and Spiro at the same time? The reason I ask is I just went to the doctor yesterday and asked for a prescription for both of these. My doc told me she can give me Yasmin or another birth control + Spiro. She explained she couldn't give me both though cuz Yasmin acts just like Spiro. Is this what all doctor's say? Well, I decided to go w/ the Yasmin and see how that works for me. I have been reading though the best way 2 combat hirsutism is to take a bcp + spiro. So, did I make the wrong choice? My doc told me the Yasmin would work just as well for my PCOS symptoms. The only difference is, she said, is I'd be paying 4 one prescription instead of two. Any input or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanx girlz!

My docotor actually wants me to go on Spiro. along with the Yasmine...She feels that they work well together, and that the Spiro will help with the facial hair complaints that I have.

I have not started taking the Spiro yet, but have had much less facial hair and fewer acne explosions with the combination of Met and Yasmine. I was hesitant to put another pill into the mix. Especially since I belive that Spiro is a diuretic, and I have enough..uh..bathroom issues with the Met by itself.

I also want to go off of the pill soon, just to see what happens, and my docotor did say that I could not be on the spiro without the pill becasue if I was to get pregnant, it would be harmful to the baby. I am not TTC, but I don't want to take any chances either... that is about all that I know...
Hope that helps!!

Thank you, that did help. Now I know that it was a personal decision my doctor made that yasmin shouldn't be taken with spiro. I'm gonna try to find a doctor that will prescribe me spiro too. Thanx again!

I believe Yaz contains sprinolactone in a low dose. That might be why your doc. does not want to Rx both.

I've been prescribed Yazmin and Spiro. I'm currently only taking the Yazmin - want to wait until my body gets used to that before I add the Spiro.
Mainly because I have to take TONS of Alleve each month to deal with horrific cramps and I know that is a no-no with both Yazmin and Spiro because of the potassium. Hopefully the Yazmin will help enough with my cramping that I'll be able to cut way back on my Alleve before I add the Spiro.

And I just want to add that it REALLY sucks to have to worry about all of this! I don't mean to feel sorry for myself, but GRRR! I just want to be normal and not have to deal with all of this anymore.
Sorry - pity party over...
Thank God for this board and all of you! XO!

I've been on spiro for 6 years and taken various brands of birth control. Maybe it's just me, but they're all the same to me with just a few minor differences. I just went to the doctor today and I asked to try Yasmin because I know a lot of the women on here take it. I was bleeding through the Ovcon 35 which I've been taking about a year and a half. She said it didn't really matter, that the Yasmin contains a small dose of spiro which acts as a diuretic to alleviate PMS symptoms (bloating, etc.). I think it's Yasmin's selling point or something that it helps with PMS symptoms but I don't think the dosage of spiro is significant enough to make a difference with the bc alone. But then again, every person is different and it all depends on the symptoms you're experiencing. For me, the hair growth is the worst so I take higher doses of spiro along with bcps to help control it.

Default Yasmin and spiro

My 16 year old daughter has been on Yasmin and spiro for about 4 months for acne and hirsutism. These medications and 3 laser treatments have worked wonders on both problems. The endo recommended 200 mg of spiro but we have decreased to 100 mg and her skin has stayed clear...she is very happy with the results. It is such a relief to finally have something that is working so well.

Good Luck to all of you.
