I also posted this on the BCPs forum but this forum seems a little bit more busy..
I have decided to TAB from TTC for a few months and relieve myself of some of the icky pcos symptoms
So I started my period on Saturday and starting my BCPs on Sunday. AF came right on time this month...a perfect 28 day cycle BUT..I had barely any cramps and it was more of a spotting (brown) Sunday I had a little actual bleeding and then Monday/Tuesday it STOPS! I have never had any kind of spotting before and AF has been pretty regular (28-35 day cycles) I have also been having nausea and sore breasts (could be PG symptoms, BCP symptoms or AF symptoms lol) sooo...what gives? Can the hormones in BCPs actually STOP your period? and how long would I have to take Yasmin to feel the side effects ie: Nausea and sore breasts??
I took Yasmin for 3 months...all were aweful. I felt the BCP symptoms right away. I was sick to my stomach and my boobs hurt and got bigger--with in 2 days of starting it! I did not have a good experience with Yasmin, but hopefully you will.

BCP are not for everyone. That is a huge misconception many people have.
You need to know what hormone you need help with before beginning BCP.
If you are estrogen dominant(so many w/pcos are) you need a low estrogen formula bcp.
The main reason Yasmin was so popular for pcos is because it help other side effects of pcos in many women like hair issues, acne and fatigue.
But it can be horrible for those on the verge of endometreosis and other hormone problems like thyroid and high blood pressure. So knowing why your taking it is the key.
BCP, Gluc and any/all other meds do not work in the same way for each and every patient.
So what works for you can cause me total misery.
Happy hunting,
Patty

I have to take Yasmin to stop my period or it will just keep going and going and going! It does sometimes stop that quick for me, too. I haven't felt any side effects from the Yasmin, I have been really lucky. Hope some of this helps!

Yeah, what she said.
I was the type to never get AF, and then one day she shows up and didn't leave!!! I went to my OBGYN and she put me on Yasmin to stop the bleeding since I wasn't yet ttc again anyway. I love the Yasmin and have had no ill effects. AF is normal and on time. It did stop the bleeding when I took it too...
It seems like there's an endless amount of results that different bcps can have on different women. We're all different I guess and so the same drug does different things to all of us. Personally I wouldn't worry about AF going missing for one or two cycles on bcp, but if it disappears for longer maybe talk to the doctor.

Oh yeah... my Dr said not to be concerned if AF was all screwed up the first month or not there at all... take the pills as normal and let her know if there was any problems after that.
I have been taking Yasmin since I was diagnosed and some months mine are the normal 5-7 days (for me anyways) and some months they are 2 or 3 days of light spotting. I just never know.

I take Yasmin too. The first few months I took it- I had the nausea too. But the longer I took it the better it got. My af is also very light and last only 2-3 days. My af have never been heavy or even a normal though. I loved it-it seems to help with the hair growth. Lately though I have noticed more cramps and mood swings near af time. I have been taking it for a long time and probally won't change unless dr finds something better for me. Without it I have no af and have to do the Provera thing.
I was on Yasmin after I had my daughter in July of 2004 and had normal AF it came like clock work then in Jan. of 2005 AF stopped. I didnt have a period till April when i went to the doctor and he changed my bcp. Now I am back to having them regularly.
