Default Yasmin three day update....

Hello everyone,

I was prescribed Yasmin on Tuesday, and so far have had three doses. I take it around 10:30 at night before I go to bed. So far, I haven't had any adverse symptoms. The only thing that I would consider to be slightly negative is a sleepy feeling that I've had today that may or may not be due to the Yasmin.

Here is a little background on my situation. I'm in my late 20's and was mis-diagnosed for years until I started doing my own research. I gained about 25 pounds very quickly, started to lose hair in the male pattern, frequent breakouts, missed or irregular periods, and extremely oily skin. I also have high cholesterol.

I was able to lose about 25 pounds recently, and now I guess I am what would be considered a thin cyster. I didn't see a major improvement in my symptoms after the weight loss except for periods that were a little more regular.

As of today, three days into Yasmin, I have noticed that my skin is slightly less oily. I only know this because usually after three hours or so, my face is a total oil slick and this time it took 5 to six hours for it to get that oily. I also noticed that once I did one good blot over my whole face, that the blotted look lasted much longer than it usually does.

This could all be wishful thinking or the "placebo effect" type of thing, but I somehow think it is making a difference. I will update a few days from now to let you all know if there is any additional improvement. As of today, I have no additional acne breakouts, so that is also an improvement.

I should mention that the diuretic effects of it have been noticed. I know that some women have experienced water weight loss, and so far I've seen a little of that as well.

Except for being sleepy (which could be just the end of a stressful week) I have nothing negative to report! Yay!

Now, if next week I could report a dry face and less hair shedding, I'd be a happy girl!

HELLO!
I'm also on yasmin. Have been on it for 7 days. I dont mean to scare you but the only thing i have noticed is that my hair is falling so much more than it used to!! I dont know if 7 days is going to make a differance but it has fallen a lot!! The only other thing I can think of was the new shampoo that i tried (NIOXIN) it was horrible!! It make my hair all dry & brittle. I'm sorry I dont mean to panic anyone but i had to tell someone. I just panic sooo much when i shower & all my hair just comes off Its getting very hard to hide my thining hair. I have been on MET for about a month I take 2000 mg a day!! I cry every day!! I hope there is relif in sight!! I wish everyone the best!! Thanks for letting me vent.

I just cry everyday because of the hairloss. I dont think its the MET or BC that make me cry. I just hope that my hair does not get any worse. I'm too young for this. Thank you for responding. Has anyone had problems with their hair falling with yasmine? Or MET? I have been losing my hair since NOV of 2002. Any input?

I will be starting Yasmin with my next cycle. I am on 2000 mg of MET right now. I gained 20 lbs in 6 weeks and my bp is high (it is ALWAYS very low). I am nervous about starting the bcp because of the blood pressure.

I'll be watching for your updates.

Default hairloss sucks!

I started lossing my hair in the shower, combing, brushing, running fingers thru since puberty! So, it wasn't the Met or the Yasmin that caused mine. However, it is not helping with the hairloss!!! I have very long hair, so it really sucks because it clogs my shower drain so!!! I'm debating just shaving it bald and going around like Shanade O'Connor (sorry if I misspelled her name)!

Any ideas on what can save what hair I have left from falling out?

BUT IS YOUR HAIR GROWING AT THE SAME TIME? MINE IS JUST FALLING & NOT GROWING. i'M NOT SURE IF THE YASMINE COULD HAVE CAUSED IT TO GET WORSE IN SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OOF TIME. IF ANYONE HAS ANY MORE INFO I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO HEAR IT.

THANKS
JEN

Question New Growth?

I think I have new growth.. Either that, or my old hair is breaking. I have pretty long hair, almost to my butt, and I have it all one length, except that there are a few strays here and there that are different lengths. Its falling out, but I don't know if its growing back or no... My hair is thinner now than it was in high school, I know that much!

Default Yasmin has worked for me..

I have been on Yasmin since July of 2002 and my periods have come every month since then. I havent experienced any hairloss but I have noticed that my skin is a lot clearer. The first 3 months, I had horrible cramps during my period and heavy flow, but since then, its almost been a breeze, I get my period for an average of 3 to 4 days and the cramps are really like for a day. I really like Yasmin and it is one of the few bcp's that have worked. Just hang in there and see what happens!

ANOTHER UPDATE:

I've now been on Yasmin for about three weeks (I'm in my first week of the inactive pills) and I have to say that I feel pretty good. Someone mentioned hairloss....YEP! And I had already lost quite a bit in January when I was under a lot of stress from a breakup and barely eating....

I'm still losing hair, and it freaks me out everyday, but I hope that it starts to slow down. I've been taking a multivitamin, flax oil caplets and saw palmetto caplets hoping that once the hair loss slows down those things will help it grow back in faster.

I already had hairloss before the Yasmin, but I can't tell exactly how much of the hairloss is due to Yasmin and how much is due to stress and just regular ol' PCOS.

I was thinking of trying Nioxin, because my hair is so oily anyway that making it a little drier wouldn't bother me so much. I use Head and Shoulders now, which is the only shampoo that I can use so far that slows down the hair loss.

I was given a referral to a dermatologist by my gyno because she was concerned about the hairloss, but I doubt there is anything he or she could realistically do.

As far as my Yasmin update....haven't had AF yet, and it's the 4th day of the sugar pills...it could happen any second I guess. I also have slightly less oily skin but a few breakouts here and there.

I also re-started with Proactiv yesterday (tried it in 1999 but it was expensive and I didn't think it made a big difference) so that could account for less oil a little way down the road.

Exclamation Yasmin...Hairloss

I was on Yasmin for 5 months and I ended up losing 1/3 of my hair. I think it was messing with my Thyroid because I had anxiety and major itching. When I stopped, so did the hairloss and I was also VERY sleepy on this pill. I would go to bed at 9:00 whereas normally it would be 11:00.

Not sure if this helps..but just wanted to give my experience as well.

Thanks,
Nan
