I was on Yaz for about four months and it was a horrible experience. I was so depressed and cried over anything. I was also constantly annoyed and angry with everyone and everything. I also had issues with anxiety. To top it all off my acne returned. These things went on the whole four months. Thankfully, i no longer have any of these problems as I am no longer on BCP. Of note.. I've read some posts about people taking loestrin. I've read that women with PCOS should stay away from loestrin. Might be something to look into to prevent any setbacks!

I forgot to mention that i was exhasted the whole time and was functioning at like 40%!!

I started on NuvaRing and HATED it....it hurt! Then I tried Yaz and felt better after one day. I've had some bleeding before the pack is up but I'm going to give that a couple months. My hormones have been getting better...they were awful before because of the too-high testosterone, and they got worse on the NuvaRing. The Yaz has helped kicked that down a few notches, I've lost 10lbs, and it is helping with my mild acne. My skin is almost clear now. Hopefully this keeps up...too bad you have to take them every day. I have to really remind myself.

I would love to find out if there is a birth control pill that works very well for PCOS women. Please let me know, I have been online searching for the past 2 weeks. I take Yaz and cry like a baby. I have not cried that much since I was
postpartum. LOL!

Please keep me informed if and when you find out!

Bless you

I agree I have been on yaz for about 6 months, and I think each month I get more emotional. Not only that, but my period is off every month, unlike when I was on the ring, now it comes and goes whenever. I made an appointment for two weeks from now to switch, but I don't know to what, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I loved Yaz. I was on it for a year and had no problems with my mood. I had absolutely no cramps, and my period was light and lasted about 3 days. I bled a really long time the first month, but after that, life was a breeze! It supressed my appetite for a few months, but my body always seem to overcome anything that makes me less hungry. After about six months, I had less excess hair than I have ever had (taking it in combo with Met & Spiro). The original plan was for me to only take it for a year to thin the uterine lining so my periods would be less painful. I was really considering continuing it because I felt so good on it. When I went for my annual checkup, my BP was high, so the gyn asked me to try life without it. I don't really think the high BP was due to the Yaz--I think it was because I had changed BP meds, and I wasn't on the right dosage yet.

Anyways, I would take it again in a heartbeat if I needed it. I really think it's better to try to overcome PCOS symptoms without BCPs because of short and long term effect BCPs may have on our bodies. Research has proven the BCPs increase insulin resistance and raise triglycerides. I also think the tremendous increase in breast cancer in the last 40 years has to be linked to BCPs.

I'm so glad to read this thread....I've only been on Yaz for a week and a half but I am sooooo irritable!! I am not usually like this but I want to shut myself in a room away from everyone and everything so noone talks to me or touches me. I want to go off of it but the gyn said to wait until I finish one whole month so I don't have awful bleeding. I'm also exhausted on it.

Some prescription progestins raise androgen levels. There are three prescription progestins that do not increase androgen levels and are best for PCOS treatment. The combination birth control pills that contain these progestins are Yasmin (drospirenone); Ortho-Cyclen and Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (norgestimate); and Mircette, Desogen, Ortho-Cept, and Cyclessa (desogestrel). There are some others out there that contain these progestins. I have personally been on Ortho-tri cyclen, but I also happen to be bipolar (the most recent study suggests 1 in 4 women who have pcos may have bipolar disorder, without being exposed to valporic acid.) and tri-phasic bcp's are not good for those who have bipolar disorder and made me nuts.

I have also been on Mircette which is also known as Kariva. This was really good no mood swings, no weight gain, no acne, ect... The only problem for me with this one is it does not contain enough estrogen for my uterine lining not to build up. I only get three normal periods a year without bcp's but when I am on this pill it doesn't overide my "normal periods" so I end up bleeding twice a month for three months out of the year.

So my gyn wants me to try seasonique. If you have high androgen levels do not go with seasonique, i am not even sure I want to be on it but I will try for a little while. The progestin is the most active androgen progestin that they put into bcp's. levonorgestrel is the name of that progestin if you want to know what to avoid.

Just my two cents on the bcp's

hi ladies.. just wanted to share my story with being on yaz... i will NEVER take it again! i was on yaz for about a year, and all i can say is that i have never felt worse. my hair started coming out in clumps (which i thought was because of PCOS) and i have been on an emotional rollercoaster ever since. i really feel that it changed me as a person. i was more anxious, nervous, and emotional than i have been my whole life. i felt like a total mess. i have been off of it for about 3 weeks now and my hair has totally stopped falling out!! i wish i had never started taking it. maybe i wouldn't almost be bald it's been a rough year but hopefully without all this shiz in my body it will get better. have any of you girls experienced the same things????
