My PCOS symptoms are Depression, Excessive hair growth, Cystic Ovaries, Painful periods when having periods, Severe muscle aches, and Gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy. My Doctor just started me on YAZ.
I took Yaz but I couldn't do the recommended 3 months. I was an emotional wreck when I was on it. But then again everyone will react to meds differently. I hope it works for you if not then try another bcp if that is what you want to do. Good Luck.

I'm on Yaz, since my PCOS diagnosis, and it's worked wonderfully for me. I'm using it in combo with Metformin, so I can't tell you much about what it did on its own, I used it by itself only for 2 months. The first three weeks were rough---constant spotting and exhaustion due to anemia. But it switched off like a light at the 4th week, and now I have perfectly regulated very light periods for only 3-5 days that week, no spotting, etc. I'm very happy with Yaz. I was never emotional, so it hasn't changed anything there for me.
The combo of the two has pretty much stopped my hair loss, slowed my hair growth, and I've lost about 25 lbs this year w/o changing my lifestyle too much (that's a goal I'm working on!). I'd never, ever lost weight no matter what diet I was on and how hard I exercised before going on these medications. Yay.

Thanks for the info. I just started it today and I hope to see a change soon! But, I know it will take awhile.
How soon did you notice a change with your medicine?
Thanks for your reply. Any help I can get I am very grateful for!!
The periods regulated immediately, the minute I finished my white pills of my first pack. I had noticed that my hair issues were better before I started the Met, so I know they were at least a little helped just by the Yaz. (so, by two months of use)
The weight didn't really change until I went onto my full 2000 dose of Met. I was very, very IR, so it's made a massive difference. That's when I started noticing serious changes.

Thanks again!! The hair thing is the worst of it. I can hide my inner problems but its the outer that make it that much more worse. My husband has been very supportive though!!
I'm currently on Yaz. It's the third BCP I've tried--I was originally on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, then Mircette, now Yaz. I developed depression on the first pill, and I've also dealt with depression when other medications have interacted with my pill. For me it seems that I get depressed when I have too many hormones floating around, so low dose BCP is good for me. Anyway, I like Yaz. I still get noticeably anxious and depressed around "that time of the month" but it's much better now than it was on other pills. My periods are also very short on Yaz. I take my last active pill on Tuesday, my period generally starts on Sunday, and it's over by Wednesday. I do still get cramps on Yaz, but they're not as bad as they were on other pills.
It has been 3 weeks since I have been on Yaz. I have noticed a difference in the way I feel. But about a week into the BCP, My doctor sent me for an MRI on my pituitary Gland. (still waiting on results) The more research I did, The more I learned that could be the cause of the PCOS. Anyone else heard of this?
